We are the Highsmith's. Our daylily garden is nestled in hardwoods and pines in middle Georgia. Currently we have close to 600 AHS registered cultivars. We are currently using a small part of our 4 1/4 acres, but we are expanding the garden every year. We are members of the American Hemerocallis Society. Our garden is state inspected and licensed. We started our hybridizing program in 2002. So last year we were able to see the first of our very own seedlings. What a good feeling it is when you see a bloom that was born from your hybridizing efforts. We log the parentage of each seedling. Of course, there are the few times that tags fade and make it impossible to ID the pollen parent. We have some of those that show potential too.
We are growing out of the rookie stage in hybridizing as we try to decide each year where to place about 1200 new seeds. We have come a long way since our beginning. We obtained more of the newer tetraploids in 2003, 2004 and now 2005 with the goal of hybridizing in mind. We acquired Spiny Sea Urchin, Lady Betty Fretz, & Forestlake Ragamuffin to name a few, to use in our hybridizing program. In 2003 and 2004 we made, what we believe to be, some fine crosses. Only time will tell.

Follow the link to 'Little Angel of Mine', a page dedicated to my daughter. She was born with a partial deletion of the 18th chromosome. And please read the story of Leisha's Lights. It is always a favorite on the internet especially around the holidays. It will touch your heart.
