Sagital Synostosis [click on splats] |
Our grandson, Alex, was diagnosed with sagital synostosis at the age of five months. On March 15th, 1998 he underwent surgery in Indianapolis, IN. Dr. Turner was his neurosurgeon and Dr. Fata was his cranial facial plastic surgeon. The surgery lasted four hours. A second surgery was necessary when abnormal growth was once again found. He underwent an intercranial pressure test, which found high levels of pressure. The Monday after Thanksgiving, 2000, he had surgery again. He was in the hospital longer this time. He is doing great and the soft spot they made is slowly closing and he will have a 3-D scan in October to see if further surgery is warranted. There are links below for medical information about this condition. There are also links to photos of Alex before and after the first and second surgery. I welcome any e-mail from parents facing this surgery. I have heard from quite a few people!
HERE ARE PICTURES FROM ALEX'S FIRST SURGERY.THE SURGERY WAS MARCH 16, 1998. THERE ARE 2 PHOTOS OF HIM IN FEBRUARY,THE MONDAY AFTERNOON IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING SURGERY, TUESDAY (24 HRS LATER) AND WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.
