Francisca went by a multitude of names as was common in the Azores in the 1800's and early 1900's. She was born to a man named Jose do Rego Coelho although even he on at least one occasion used the name Jose do Rego de Medeiros in honor of his mother's family name. Francisca used the name Francisca dos Santos on her passport upon return to the United States in 1919 after her stay in the Azores, and she undoubtedly used the name Francisca (Frances?) Perry in this country as the wife of Antone Perry aka Antonio Jacinto Pereira. Francisca also had seven siblings. Her older sister was named Maria Izabel, there were two more sisters named Maria and four brothers named Manoel, Joseph, Antonio, and John. Manoel lived and died in Florida, Joseph and Antonio went to Bermuda, Maria Izabel lived in California, and John lived in Massachusetts and California. It is unclear where the other two Marias lived.

Jose's occupation is listed as "barao" translated to "baron". His father was a fisherman so there is no apparent connection with royalty. Family lore has it that he owned, managed, or operated a sawmill in Lagoa and that he was of a "higher class" than others. The title "baron" would support this notion although how he acquired the title is anyone's guess. Perhaps he bought the right to it, or maybe he simply adopted it as was often the custom in those days.

This Jose do Rego and his brothers were the first people to add the name Coelho to the family name of do Rego. Apparently there were so many Regos in town that some of the branches adopted a second name so that each extended family could be distinguished from the others. Andre do Rego and Anna do Rego mark a milestone in this genealogy. Their marriage united two separate do Rego lines in Lagoa. In addition to uniting the lines, they seemed to be somewhat free-spirited in that their first child, Marianna, was born almost one year before they were married.
