John Henry CADLE came out to South Africa as a member of Howard's Party - No 21 on the Colonial Department list, led by William Howard of Blucher Street, Chesham, Buckinghamshire. It was intended that a joint stock party of fifteen men and their families from Buckinghamshire form Howard's party, but by the time they left some of theoriginal party had fallen away and been supplemented by four members of a London party whose application had been turned down.7. (3) 7 Dec 1824, in Grahamstown, Cape, RSA, James THOMAS, m. (4) 7 Dec 1828, in Port Elizabeth, Cape, RSA, Charles GURNEY. Sarah died 3 Nov 1843, Port Elizabeth, Cape, RSA.The party embarked at Deptford in the "Ocean" regular transport, sailing from Portsmouth on New Year's Day 1820, and arriving in Table Bay on 29 March and Algoa Bay on 15 April. Its location on the Blaauwkrantz River was named Salem Hills.
He drowned on the 11 October 1823, near Salem
