Kayaking on the Alafia
August 26, 2005
With Hurricane Katrina headed for other parts of the Gulf Coast, I took the kayak to Alderman Ford Park and took the 11 mile trip to Lithia Springs. These were some of the sights:
a Great Blue Heron
hopped into the shade as soon as I took the camera out. The current on the river
is very fast, and there was some fallen wood between me and the heron. I wedged
the kayak against a log and twisted around to get the picture.
The trees were
beautiful along the river and it was quite shady. Wedged between a cypress and
a palm there were cypress knees ahead of me. Cypress knees have always fascinated
me. In fact, my parents had several polished cypress knees that I was allowed
to play with when I was little.
Okay, it was only 1 gator, but all three pics came out quite well. He dashed into the water just after I snapped the third pic.
