1. JOHN2 WHARTON (BARTLETT1) was born 1793 in Ulm, Spartanburg District, Union Co, South Carolina, and died 1865 in Tennessee. He married MARY "POLLY" HIGHTOWER October 30, 1823 in Lawrence Co, Tennessee.

Three Wharton brothers, Caleb, Joshua, and John, came to Madison County, Arkansas before 1832 from Stokes County, South Carolina.

The 1840 Census of Madison County, Arkansas lists three Whartons, apparently brothers:
(1) CALEB WHARTON, head of family; Males: 1 - - 5-10; 1 - - 10-15; 1 - - 15-20; 1 - - 40-50; Females: 2 - - 5-10; 2 - - 10-15;
(2) JOSHUA WHARTON; Males: 2 - - 5-10; 1 - - 10-15; 1 - - 50-60; Females: 2 - - 5-10; 1 - - 10-15; 1 - - 30-40;
(3) JOHN WHARTON; Males: 2 under 5; 1 - - 30-40; Females: 1 - - 20-30.

The 1850 census is the last seen of Joshua Wharton.

1. 1808- witnessed land purchase by Bartlett Wharton in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

2. 1817- Deed Book K, page 157. Clerk of Court Office, Greenville, South Carolina:

I, John Wharton of Spartanburg District in consideration of $200 to me paid by Vardry Camp of the same District have granted, sold, released the tract of land lying in the District of Greenville on both sides of Mill Creek waters of South Pacelot. Containing 100 acres, originally granted William Jamison by patent dated 5 april 1790 from him to John Gowan from Gowan to John Towndsend from Townsend to me. Dated 11 Dec. 1817 Wit: Thomas Wharton, William D. (X) Thomas. Signed: John (X) Wharton

4. Migrated to Tennessee with father, Bartlett & 2 brothers, Joshua & Caleb. They first went to Lawrence Co, Tennessee and then to McNairy Co. While Caleb & Joshua went to Texas & Arkansas, John stayed put in Tennessee. (Moragnes Family in America)

After the War, Uncle Charlie roamed through Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas working in each location. He finally had a stroke and spent his last days in the Confederate Home of Beauvoir.

Wounded five times during the war, including seriously at the Battle of Atlanta, and finished the war at the Battle of Bentonville. Moved to Mississippi after the war and was a state senator from Pontotoc Co, Mississippi in 1890.

Came to Mississippi from McNairy Co, Tennessee after the war. Attended school in Verona. Lived later at the Dillard Place, Chesterfield and Verona where he died.
