Music Room Midi World |
I am a ..jazz appreciator..and jazz fan. Some of my favorite
jazz artists include: Nat
King Cole, daughter Natalie
Cole, Sarah Vaughn, Ella
Fitzgerald, Manhattan
Transfer, Harry
Connick, Jr., Joe Henderson
(a former Lima-ite!) Jobim,
Billie Holiday, Diana
Krall, and Frank
Sinatra. I also have many other musical interests..from James
Taylor and Jimmy Buffet
to Barbra
Streisand and Bette
Midler.
I usually sing with a three or four piece band, and we do all the old standards
from that great era now known as the 30's and 40's. But due to the fact
that not EVERYBODY loves that era as much as we do, (hard to believe, isn't
it?!) I've been adding other styles to my book..like country and some top
40. I've even been caught yodeling in public, on purpose!
Some of my proudest performances
were opening for Mr. Ray Charles himself, and singing for President Reagan
at a "whistle-stop" during his second bid for office. Every summer,
our group plays several outdoor concerts in our "Concerts/Dances in
the Park Series." These stem from neighborhood associations who used
to be very active. Its really fun and lovely to see couples "in their
twilight years" dancing together arm in arm and beautiful to watch
the looks on their faces. They seem to get lost in time, and appear to
be courting each other all over again.
We also perform at wedding receptions, corporate and private parties, class
reunions, dances at VFW Halls and Elks and Eagles Clubs. Everyone always
asks how I know so many old songs, and I just tell them that I was born
in the wrong time, and naturally drawn to learn that music! I also compose
my own songs, which are mostly ballads, and mostly about love coming into
or going out of my life. I've also written a children's musical which has
been mounted twice, and authored and published Car
Tunes, a children's tape of original songs, original and bible
stories and games to keep young ones entertained in the car.
