Candle Magick

When using candle magick, always remember the Wiccan Rede and the Rule of Three.

To start you must first define your goal. What is it that you want to accomplish? Once you figure that out then find the color that best suits that need.

Candles are dressed by imbuing them with your intent. It is done by visualizing your desire, as specifically as possible, while anointing the candle. First you must clense the candle to remove any negative energy that may have found its way to it that may have occured during store handling and such. Cleanse the candle by either dipping it in salt or buring it in the soil and ask the God/dess to bless it. Now you must dress your candle. You can use an oil that is compatable with your particular goal, but any oil will be suitable.

To bring something to you (i.e. Love, Money) rub the oil in a downward fashon from the top to the middle and then from the bottom to the middle.

To send something away (i.e. a bad habit, an unwanted lover) rub the oil from the middle of the candle out to the ends.

When working with 7-day candles (ones enclosed in glass) oil the exposed wax: clockwise to draw good, counter-clockwise to expel negativity.

Never make a back and forth motion as this defeats the purpose. Dab the remaining oil from your fingers onto your third eye and on your breast bone. Then say the following:

"I cleanse and consecrate this candle in the name of The God and The Goddess. May it burn with strength in the service of the light."

Then state your intent or the purpose of the candle.

Now you are ready to inscribe the candle. Take a sharp object (some people say to use your athame, I disagree since the athame should not be used for cutting 'anything', instead I suggest you use your bolline or another type of knife) and carve appropriate symbols or keyword into the side (or top if it's glass-enclosed) of the candle. If working for prosperity, a dollar sign may be appropriate or simply the word Money . The same principle as dressing a candle should be used. To draw something to you, write from the top to the middle then from the bottom to the middle. To repel things, write from the middle to the ends. Think of your goal while you carve. Repeat the incantation or affirmation.

The candle should be burned non-stop to assure results, however, if it must be doused do not blow the candle out. Use your fingers, a candle douser or even a butter knife.

The above is not the only a guideline. There are many methods you may use. If you are not comfortable with this one, perhaps another one would suffice. You could even combine different styles and create your own. Do what is comfortable for you as long as it has meaning and doesn't harm anyone.
