Summer is almost here!!!! The girls will be getting out of school soon and be going their own way until September. But we can still remember all the fun things we did this year. There were exciting events - with some yet to come-and many badges were earned. The girls worked hard, and will be working over the summer to prepare for their first camping adventure in the fall. With Situpons and Survival/First Aid kits already made, the girls only need to prepare their dishbags and create some SWAPS - 50-100 of them - for the encampment. That should keep them busy over the summer!
The girls as a troop earned their Creative Solutions, Swimming, Sky Search, Geology, Business Wise, Theater, Art to Wear and My Heritage badges over the course of the year. Not every girl earned every badge but they worked hard on the ones they did earn! Some of the badges the girls earned individually were: Dance, Collecting Hobbies, Doing Hobbies and Junior Technology. They did a GREAT job.
We participating in a Thinking Day exchange with a pack of Girl Guides in Australia. We collected lots of information which should help the girls earn their Girl Scouting around the World badge. It was great fun to see what the Guides had for us. Thanks so much to Kookabura, one of their leaders for participating with us.
The Cookie Sale finished with the girls reaching their goal of 2000 in 2000!!!! They actually exceeded their goal and sold over 2600 boxes. Excellent work girls! Let's do it again next year!
The girls were able to go on a hayride at Hallowe'en, dance the night a way at a Millenium Dance, enjoy themselves at their candle-light Investiture Ceremony/Christmas party, visit a science museum, participate in a Pinewood Derby, sleepover at a local history museum, see Fantasia 2000 at the IMAX, participate in a GS Fashion Adventure at Limited Too, learn about the Green Circle (and earn the patch), take their mothers to lunch and a play at a local theater and march in a local Memorial Day parade. The girls also made hygeine kits, baked cupcakes/muffins and fed the homeless for homeless shelter week and planted flowers at the community clubhouse - where we meet. We made Cookie Box Scrapbooks to commemerate this eventful first year. The girls are still looking forward to their end of year party, taking their dads to Saturn for dinner and to earn their Car Care badge, their neighborhood wide 4th grade camp-in and of course the encampment in the fall.
This year has been a busy one!!!
From the girls and the leaders of Girl Scout Troop 249 - We wish you a safe and happy summer vacation. Thank you for visiting our website. We hope to see you here in the fall!!
