Strife at the high school
Teachers lose showdown with new principal
Richard Cronshey, Del Valle's (in)famous biology teacher and resident hell-raiser, continued to make the headlines. He had a quarter of the faculty with him this time, though. It seems the current Principal, Suzzie Bragg, put many of the high school's teachers on "growth plans" last year, essentially telling them to "shape up." The teachers responded with a written complaint to state officials, effectively telling her to "ship out."
Bragg kept her job despite the protests. She had the new superintendent behind her.
Cronshey moved on to the Hays Consolidated ISD. Now he's got a whole new school board to rail against!

The thrill of victory
Asha Hill
Following in the tradition of Beverly Williams ('84), Del Valle sent another one of its own, Asha Hill, to the famed Lady Longhorn basketball team at the University of Texas. This Class of '98 graduate was heavily recruited, even as a high school sophomore. She continued to shine in her freshman year of college, being named a Big 12 Conference rookie of the week in the 1998-99 season. The agony of defeat
You may also recall that Football Coach and Athletic Director Ray Dowdy announced our senior year that he was leaving Del Valle to take the head job at Austin's Anderson High School, home of the Trojans. Well, he ran into a little trouble.

Politics
Gov. George Dubya Bush (him on the left, not the other guy) stopped by Del Valle in January, 1999 to highlight his stance on TAAS testing. It got Hillcrest Elementary into all the papers.
