William GOUDY or GOWDY (we have found his name spelled both ways) is believed to have been born in Pennsylvania and moved to Kentucky where some of his first children were born. Land records in Ohio show him living near Springfield by 1813 on a valley farm situated near the Little Miami River where he spent the remainder of his days as a farmer. The original house was of logs but afterwards weatherboarded. It contained a "room," bedroom, kitchen and a shed used for cooking in the summer. There was a porch on one side of the house. The supply of water was found in a fine large spring some distance from the house from which pipes were later laid to a fountain within doors. There was also a " Millhouse " where a cistern contained rain water. This family represented the Reformed Presbyterian faith bearing the old Scotch Covenanting stamp. They attended the "Masseys Creek Church" about nine miles from home. There was a school near the farm. Just where William and Isabella are buried is unknown. His children. several of them, moved to Monmouth, Illinois, and other western states and became very numerous.

Ann STEELE and Elizabeth STEELE were sisters who married the GOWDY Brothers John and Robert GOWDY. Nancy Patton KIRKPATRICK who Married another brother,Thomas Bigger GOUDY, was their niece, her mother, Sarah STEELE being Ann and Elizabeths older sister.
