CORA LUCILLE ADAMS
Herrin
Cora Lucille Adams, 79, a former Benton resident, died at 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 7, 1999, in the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, at the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton, with the Rev. Bert Mitchell officiating. There will be no visitation. Those attending the service on Wednesday are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Adams was born on May 17, 1920, in benton, the daughter of Marshall and Winnie (Gargus) Rice. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of West City. She is survived by two sons, Ray Adams and wife Pam of Herrin, Roy Adams and wife Gretchen of Cambria; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Dallape and husband Frank of Benton. She was preceded in death by her parents, by one brother, Earl Rice and by one sister, May Blair.

ROBERT FRANKLIN ALLEN
Fallbrook, California
Robert Franklin Allen, former Sesser resident, died at 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999 in the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, Sesser, with the Rev. Woody Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Horse Prairie Cemetery, Sesser. There will be no visitation. Mr. Allen was born in Chicago Heights, the son of Charles Hobart Allen and Erma Atchison Lewis. Survivors include one sister, Shirley Armenisa and husband Sam of Kankakee; two brothers, Kirby Allen and wife Carol of Chicago Heights, Carrell Lee Allen and wife Mary of Woodland Hills, Calif.; several nieces and nephews. A construction worker, he was an Army veteran of the Viet Nam War, and was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of the Sesser VFW and American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

JENNIE ALLOIS
Benton
Jennie Allois, 86, of Benton, died at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 11, 1999 at the Community Hospital of Ottawa. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Donald Lenzini officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery. Friends may call after 12:30 p.m. until time of service on Wednesday, to the church. Mrs. Allois was born in Herrin on Sept. 18, 1912, to Joe and Catherine (Nigra) Appino. She was married to Aldo Allois on July 27, 1933. He died on Dec. 18, 1973. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Benton. Survivors include one daughter, Jo Knudson and husband Don of Marseilles; two grandsons, Dr. Gregory Knudson and wife Michelle of Dublin, Oh., Dr. Gary Knudson and wife Kendra of Waterloo, Iowa; five great-grandchildren. Her parents, husband and two brothers, Bart and Pete Appino preceded her in death. For those who wish Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund or to St. Joseph Catholic Church. JEWELL M. ANDERSON

Jewell M. Anderson, 50, died at her home in Lexington, on Friday, June 18, 1999. Services will be held Tuesday, June 22, at 11 a.m. in the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, Sesser, with the Revs. Tommy Howard and John Welsh officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 21, at the funeral home. Mrs. Anderson was born on Oct. 25, 1948, in Martin, Ky. the daughter of Estill Martin and Avean M. Green. She was married to Fred Anderson who survives. She was employed by Hills Department Store in Lexington. In addition to her husband, Fred, she is survived by her mother, Avean M. Green of Sesser; three brothers, Estill Martin Jr. of LaGrane, Ind., Tom Martin of Ocean Springs, Miss., Don Martin of Scheller; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.

LLOYD J. ATCHISON

Lloyd J. Atchison, 89, died at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 1999, in the Skilled Care Unit of Franklin Hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 6, in the Gilbert Funeral Home, Christopher, with the Rev. Gary Farthing officiating. Burial will be in the Mulkeytown Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Sunday until time of service. Mr. Atchison was born on Nov. 10, 1909, in Plain View, Ark., the son of Andrew J. and Allie (Williams) Atchison. He was first married to Norma (Steckenrider) Atchison who preceded him in death. He later married Beatrice J. (Corn) Atchison. She survives. He was a retired coal miner from Freeman #3 and a member of U.M.W.A. In addition to his wife, Beatrice, he is survived by four children, Betty Rowland of Christopher, Donald Atchison of Sesser, Jack Atchison, Diane Sthal of Mulkeytown; stepchildren Dean Smith of West Frankfort, Ray Smith of Kentucky, Donna Craig of Lake-In-The-Hills, Jerry Smith of Abingdon; fourteen grandchildren; one sister, Essie Hayes of Mt. Vernon.

WILMA ATCHISON

Wilma Atchison, 83, formerly of Whittington, died at 5:50 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, in St. Mary's Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Whittington, with the Rev. Bob Ward officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday to the funeral home. Mrs. Atchison was born on June 11, 1916, in Franklin County, the daughter of Fred and Ada (Shockley) Duff. She was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church in Christopher. Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Shumate of Atlanta, Ga., Sharon Atchison of Fort Worth, Texas, Sheila Brown and husband Norman, Marion; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul Atchison, one grandson, two brothers and one sister.

LOU DEANE BAILEY

Lou Deane Bailey, 77, of 108 W. Adams, died at 5:05 p..m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Funeral services will be a 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, with the Rev. Clinton Woodfin officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Bailey was born Aug. 18, 1926 in Logan, the daughter of Hiram Elmer and Cordie Ellen (Gill) Keaton. She married Charles W. Bailey and he died Nov. 19, 1972. She was a retired manager of various retail stores on the Benton Public Square including The Vogue, The Shoe Room, and Harris'. She was a past President of the Business and Professional Women's Organization, past Band Parent president, and was a Girl Scout leader for 18 years. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, Benton. Survivors include two sons, Rox W. Bailey, Charlotte, NC, Mike Bailey, East St. Louis; a daughter, Jane O'Tain, Evansville, Ind.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, a brother, Charles E. Keaton, Benton; a sister, Mona Lee Bays, St. Louis, Mo. and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson, Aaron B. Bailey and a sister, Madge Jones. MELVIN E. BANEY
West Frankfort
Melvin E. Baney, 86, of 302 Illinois Ave., died at 6:35 p.m. , Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, in his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13 in the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home, West Frankfort, with the Rev. Becky Brault officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday to the funeral home. Mr. Baney was born on Sept. 8, 1912, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Gail Ruby (McMeens) Baney. He was married to Frances (Steh) Baney on July 22, 1933 in West Frankfort. She survives. He was a retired painter and a member of the Harmony International Brothers of Painters and Allied Trades Union Local #32. He was very active in Democrat politics and had served as a precinct committeman, Denning Township trustee and clerk, Franklin County Board of Trustees and president of the Joiner School Baord of Education. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on the administration board and was president of the Harmony Sunday School Class. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Donna Sue Bozarth and husband Joe of West Frankfort; three grandchildren, Cynthia Crabtree and husband Jerry of West Frankfort; Georgia Moore of West Frankfort; Doug Moore and wife Becky of West Frankfort; four great-grandchildren, Cara Broy, Alyssa, Nathan and Ashlee Moore, all of West Frankfort; one brother Gailord Baney and wife Geneva of Sesser; three sisters, Ruth Funcannon of Benton, Eleanor Ferguson of West Frankfort, Gretta Sanders of California; several nieces and nephews. MONA M BEAN
Mona M. Bean, 97, a former Benton resident, died Wednesday morning Aug. 25, 1999 at the Northgate Nursing Home in Florissant, Mo. Services will be held at noon on Friday, Aug. 27, in the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with Pastor Phillip Ingle officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. on Friday until time of service to the funeral home. Mrs. Bean was born in Jefferson County on Dec. 16, 1901, the daughter of Noah Calvin and Stella (Lisenby) Humphrey. On April 3, 1921, she married Walter Leonard Bean. He died Oct. 30, 1983. Survivors include one daughter, Jackie Hayes of Florissant, Mo.; two grandsons, Bret Hayes and wife Sonya of Florissant, Mo.; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Vermadel Travis of Peoria, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Leota Mick, and son-in-law, Bob Hayes. Elva Blanche Bishop, 89, of 508 W. Matthew, died at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999 in the St.. Mary's Good Samaritan Health Care Center, Mt. Vernon. Services will be held Sunday, Nov. 21, at 1 p.m. in the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, Sesser. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Bishop was born on Feb. 15, 1910 in Franklin County, the daughter of Austin and Safrona (Kelly) Walker. She was married to Alonzo Bishop who preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1992. She was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker. Survivors include three daughters, Betty and Bill Wilson of Sesser, Jane and Ed Curtis of Wynona, Minnesota, Barbara and Jack Cote, Brook, Ind.; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Jones of Sesser.

EARNEST L."ERNIE" BLAIR

Ernest L."Ernie" Blair, 54, died at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 1999, in the Marshall Browning Hospital, Du Quoin. Services will be held Friday, July 2, at noon in the Poulson Funeral Home with the Rev. Rod Joplin officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service on Friday to the funeral home. Mr. Blair was born on April 29, 1945, in Benton, the son of James and Eleanor (Chaffin) Blair. He was married to Virginia "Ginger" (Langston) Blair. She survives. He was a retired concrete contractor and a member of the Church of God, Benton. He loved his yard and garden. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Shannon Blair of Benton; stepson Greg Bradford and wife Nancy, Olive Branch, Mississippi; stepdaughters, Angel Henry and husband, Danny of Memphis, Tenn., Roxane Finch, South Haven, Miss.; two grandchildren, Craigory and Darrean; seven stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Clifford and wife Carol Blair of Benton, Mark and wife Rebecca Blair of Springfield; two sisters, Elsie and husband Jackson Cantrell of Benton, Nancy and husband Emil"Bud" Vandom of Benton. His parents, three brothers, James Jr., Gary Lynn, William Edmon Blair and two sisters, Edna Mae Thompson and Linda Wyant preceded him in death.

DALE EDWARD BOND

Dale Edward Bond, 71, died at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 1999 at the V.A. Medical Center, Marion. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, at the Third Baptist Church Marion, with Dr. Jerry Ford officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the Meredith-Blue Funeral Home, Marion. Mr. Bond was born on June 29, 1927, in Saline county, the son of Wilbern and Grace (Edwards) Bond. He married Bonita Sue Edwards on March 29, 1947 in Marion and she survives. He was the owner of the Marion Abstract Company and Franklin County Title in Benton. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. In his free time he enjoyed trap shooting. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Rhoda Bond of the Lake of Egypt; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne "Jody" and Bob Fuson of Benton, and Karen and Ron Broeking of Marion; grandchildren, Erin Corder, Chad Fuson, and Carrie and Ben Cox. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to the Marion Third Baptist Church, TIP Home Health Care Services or Benton Immanuel Baptist Church building fund. Irene Boswell, 80, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, in the Franklin Skilled Care Unit of Franklin Hospital, Benton. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser, with Brothers Gene Outland and Harl Ray Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 this evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Boswell was born on Aug. 22, 1919 in Franklin County, the daughter of John and Ethel (Cook) Eubanks. She was married to Jesse Boswell on July 7, 1938. He survives. She was a member of Hazel Dell Free Will Baptist Church, Sesser, and was a house wife, dedicated wife and loving mother. In addition to her husband Jesse, she is survived by two sons, and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Lulabell Boswell of Mulkeytown, Rodger and Angela Boswell of O'Fallon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Curtis Warren of Benton, Connie and Victor Brandalise of Sesser; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; three sisters, Leo Kunkel of Mulkeytown, Gloma Harrison of Sesser, twin sister, Ilene Cockrum of Beckemyer. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Velma Kunkel and Edith Eubanks; one brother, Clyde Eubanks.

BARBARA JEAN BOURLAND
West Frankfort
Barbara Jean Bourland, 69, of 1737 E. Main St., died on Monday, Sept. 20, 1999 in Franklin Hospital. Services were held on Thursday, Sept. 23, at 1:30 p.m. in the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home, West Frankfort. Burial was in Tower Heights Cemetery. Mrs. Bourland was born on July 28, 1930, in Chicago, the daughter of Reece and Geneva (Thompson) Edwards. She was married on April 27, 1977, in West Frankfort to Arthur Bourland. He survives. She has been involved for 19 years with the Franklin County, E.S.O.A. and for the last 12 years she served as assistant coordinator. In addition to her husband, Arthur, she is surived by one daughter, Lori and husband Harley Kelso of Loredo, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Jane Dobreff of Belleville, Mich.; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Barbara and Molly Kelso, Eric and Jason Dobreff . She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Irvin Odum, infant granddaughter, Amanda Kelso.

EVELYN L. BOWMAN
West Frankfort
Evelyn L. Bowman, 74, died on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999 in Franklin Hospital, Benton. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, in the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home, West Frankfort, with Pastor Tom Ellison of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Benton, officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday to the funeral home. Mrs. Bowman was born on Nov. 14, 1925, in Indiana County, Pa., the daughter of Knowlton and Sarah (Bothel) Fairman. She was married to Norman Bowman, who died in 1969. She retired in 1987 from the Union Hospital, where she worked as a licensed practical nurse for 18 years. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Benton. Survivors include two sons, John T. Bowman of West Frankfort, Fred K. Bowman and wife Cynthia of Springfield; one daughter, Brenda E. Bradley and husband James of Logan; three grandchildren, Michelle Russell, James Bradley and Lindsey E. Bowman; one great-grandson, Garrett Russell; one sister, Winefred Cameron of Mineral Ridge, Ohio. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ellen Ruddock.

HAROLD E. "COWBOY" BRADEN
West City
Harold E. "Cowboy" Braden, died Saturday, June 19, 1999, in Franklin Hospital, Benton. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, in the Poulson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Loyd Lasley officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of service at the funeral home. Mr. Braden was born on Dec. 6, 1921, in Hamilton County, the son of the Rev. Dorcy and Louie Fay (Sanders) Braden. He was married to Mildred "Louise" Craddock. She died on Feb. 18, 1999. He was retired as a roof bolter from Freeman Coal Co. in Waltonville, and was a member of the Eakin Grove Baptist Church. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Lampley of Benton; a granddaughter, Nancy Graser and husband Paul of St. Charles, Mo.; great-grandson, Matthew Paul Graser of St. Charles, Mo.; three foster children, Robert "Butch" and Connie Spain of Waltonville, Louise and Alan Minton of Christopher, Helen and Richard Davis of Benton; 8 foster grandchildren; 10 foster great-grandchildren. Mr. Braden was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, two brothers, Otis and Elmer Braden.

TONA ELAINE BRADEN

Tona Elaine Braden, 39, died Tuesday, July 13 a.m. in her home in Ina. Services will be held Friday, July 16, at 2 p.m. in the Polson Funeral Home, Benton, with the Rev. David Shores offciating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Michael T. Braden. Tona was born on April 25, 1960, in Benton, the daughter of Arthur F. and Shirley (Tate) Braden Ehrhart. Her spouse was Tom Isom, who survives in Ina. She was a retired nurse's aid and was of the Baptist faith. Other survivors include two sons, Robert D. and Michael T. Braden, both of Ina; one daughter, Mary Beth Braden of Ina; a stepdaughter, Jamie Marie Morris of Ina; two grandchildren, Dalton Matthew and Kelsey Marie; a step-grandchild Kaitlin Nicole; brothers, Steve and wife Chris Holmes of Fairborn, Ohio, Arthur and wife Karen Braden also of Fairborn; sisters, Karin Ward of South Carolina and Bonnie Rhodes of Ft. Meyers, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Nicholas Arthur Braden, who preceded her in death in 1994.

Mary Bandibas, 76, of 408 E. 15th St., died at 5 p.m. on Wednesda,y, Sept. 29, 1999. Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 2 at noon in the Gilbert Funeral Home with the Rev. Perry Musgrave officiating. Burial will be in the Mulkeytown Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Saturday until time of service at the funeral home. Mrs. Brandibas was born on Aug. 13, 1923, in Christopher, the daughter of Lester and Dora (Montgomery) Smith. She was first married to Paul Space and later married Eli Brandibas. They both preceded her in death. She was a housewife and of the Catholic faith. Survivors include one daughter, Paula J. and husband Mike Saul of Christopher; two grandchilden; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Norman Smith of Valier, Bob Smith of Christopher, Lester Smith of Herrin, James Smith of Granite City; one daughter, Carol Sue Maibaum of Kokomo, Ind. She was also preceded in death by one sister.

RUTH HELEN BRADLEY
Sesser Ruth Helen Bradley, 7456 Peach Orchard Rd., died on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1999, in Sunbridge Care in Salem. Services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. in the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, Sesser, with Pastor Joel Danner officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday to the funeral home. Mrs. Bradley was born on Sept. 14, 1927, in Homestead, N. Y., the daughter of Henry and Helen Hachman. She was married to Lloyd Wayne Bradley on March 20, 1995. He survives. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, West Frankfort. Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Jo Crum of Sesser; one son, Jeffrey and wife Dixie Bradley of Mt. Vernon; several nieces and nephews; two grandchildren Carissa Lynn Bradley and her mother Deborah Jean Bradley and Tyler Wayne Bradley; several nieces and nephews.

BILLY BROWN
Sesser
Billy Brown, 83, of 14541 St. Hwy. 168, Sesser, died in his home at 11:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, Sesser, with the Rev. Larry Cook officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with a Masonic service scheduled for 7 p.m. Mr. Brown was born in Rend City on Aug. 9, 1916, the son of Rayburn and Velma Beryl (Yung) Brown. He was married to Martha Elizabeth (Troxel) Brown on Oct. 21, 1951. She survives. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, a farmer, livestock and grain elevator dealer. A member of Local 181 Operators Union, he belonged to Scottish Rite, Belleville, Ainad Shrine Temple in East St. Louis . He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the V.F.W., American Legion and D.A.V. all of Sesser. In addition to his wife, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lewis Rayburn Brown.

WANDA MAXINE BROWN
Calvert City, Kentucky
Wanda Maxine Brown, 84, of 778 Oak Park Blvd. in Calvert City, Ky. died at 8:42 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, 1999 in Lourdes Hospital, Paducah, Ky. Services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Collier Funeral Home, Benton, Ky. with the Rev. Terry Mathis officiating. Burial will be in Calvert City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Brown was the former owner of Brown's Ken Tuk-Un Motel in Gilbertsville, Ky., and was a member of the Gilbertsville Baptist Church and the North Marshall Senior Citizens. Memorials may be made to the Baptist Childrens Home in care of the Collier Funeral Home. Survivors include two sons, Donald Brown and Wayne D. Brown, both of Calvert City; a sister, Kay Sammons of Valier; a brother, Woodrow Slade of Ortonville MI; one grandson, R. Clay Brown of Paducah, Ky. one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Brown of Paducah and a great-grandson, Matthew Brown, Paducah. He was a past deacon of the East Benton Baptist Church and a member for 64 years. Survivors include his wife, Inez Bryant, McLeansboro; a son, Paul E. Mr. Cantrell was a citizen of Benton since 1934. He was a member of the UMWA for 72 years. He was a coal miner for 42 years, last working at Old Ben #21. He was a member of the Benton Church of God. He was a veteran of the Air Force, having served in Korea, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Valier and the United Steel Workers Union. In addition to his wife Norma, he is survived by a daughter Sheila and husband Mike Lewandaowski of Covington, Ky.; a son, Donald E. Cook of Portage, Ind., a stepson Charles and wife Cathi K. Spornick of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Steven, Michael, Anna and Nicholas; a sister, Lena Mae Kirk of Valier. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Mr. Coulson was born in Centerville, Iowa, on April 5, 1906, the son of J.L.and Bessie (Wiseman) Coulson. He was married to Grace Lee (Teaney) Coulson, who died on Jan. 31, 1983. He was a retired coal miner and served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Christopher. Survivors include one daughter, Judith Coulson of Christopher; two sisters, Dorothy Coulson of Christopher; Lois Latta of Terra Haute, Ind.; and one brother Clarence Coulson of Springfield, Ohio.

Survivors include one son, Elmond and wife Doris Daily of Dahlgren; one daughter, Eunice and husband Howard King of Annapolis, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ronna Daily of Granite City; ten grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Willard and Gary Daily; three sisters, Ethel Brake, Floy Brake, Letha Cross; one daughter-in-law, Lillian Daily and one great-grandchild.

Stanley Dallape, 77, died at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 1999, in his home. He was an honorary member of the Eldorado VFW and Legion and belonged to the Benton American Legion Post. He was employed as a warehouse man. Dillon on Aug. 24, 1934 and he preceded her in death in 1988. Mrs. Dillon was a native of Albion. She was a retired school teacher. A member of the Marysville United Methodist Church, she also was a member of the Eastern Star, A.A.R.P. and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include a son, David Dillon and wife Kerri of Yuba City and a granddaughter, Tiphanie Dillon, also of Yuba City. Her parents and husband preceded her in death.

He married the former Beatrice Weik and she preceded him in death on March 31, 1903. Retired from the St. Charles Boys School in St. Charles, Ill., he was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II. He was a member of the St. Charles Masonic Lodge and was of the Methodist faith. Walter Eugene (Gene) Dorris, 85, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999 at the Parkway Manor in Marion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, in the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home, Benton, with the Revs. John West and Philip Ingle officiating. Mr. Dorris was born on Sept. 13, 1914, in West Frankfort, the son of John D. and Cora (Ice) Dorris. He was married on June 28, 1941, at the First Baptist Church in West Frankfort, to Cloe (Alexander) Dorris. She survives. He served 38 months in the U.S. Army and at the time of his discharge was in General McArthur's headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. A former Circuit Clerk and Recorder, he was the Coroner of Franklin County from 1960 to 1968. He was the owner and operator of Dorris Abstract Company for 33 years until his retirement. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Benton for 50 years and had served on the Board of Deacons, Board of Trustees, member of the Chancel Choir, and a Sunday School teacher. In addition to his wife, Cloe Dorris of Benton; he is survived by two sons, Michael E. Dorris and wife Pamela Jean of Benton, Jerry Robert Dorris of Benton; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Maurice Dorris of Lawrenceville; one nephew, Charles E. Dorris of West Frankfort; several nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Sevil and Raymond, and an infant brother, Francis, three sisters, Mae Douglas, Golda Hiles, Faye Purcell, one nephew, John D. Douglas and one grandson, Robert Eugene Dorris.

She survives. He was retired from Great Plains Gas in Peoria and later worked for Lanter Courier Corp. in Marion. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in West Frankfort. In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by four sons, Steven Doxsie of Benton, Terry Doxsie and wife Billie of Benton, Michael Doxsie and wife Raedene of Creve Coeur, Toby Doxsie and wife Jackie of Benton; one daughter, Dawn Doxsie of Benton; six grandchildren; one brother, Kirby Doxsie and wife Judy of Benton; one sister, Linda Burton and husband Roger of Marion. Raymond A. Drew, 68, of P.O. Box 169, Lewisburg, Penn., died Wednesday morning on Dec. 22, 1999, at the Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg, Penn. Mr. Drew was born in Benton on Feb. 8, 1931, the son of the late George and Mary E. Baldwin Drew. He was an industrial engineer retiring in 1980, employed with the federal government with the Federal Prisons Industries Industries at Lewisburg, Penn. and in Mylan, Mich. He had formerly been with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Gallup, NM; and with the General Services Administration in Washington, DC and Denver, Colo. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy on the Destroyer USS Stoddard in the Mediterranean. Mr. Drew graduated from Benton High School in 1949, and from Southern Illinois University where he received a bachelor's degree in 1959 and a master's degree in 1970. He was a member of the Reformed Baptist Church in Lewisburg and was a former leader and assistant sccout master with the Boy Scouts of America from 1962 to 1976. He had enjoyed camping and hunting. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former Mary L. Wilkinson; two sons, Thomas R. Drew of Fayetteville, Penn. and Tim E. Drew of Shippinsburg, Penn.; five grandchildren, Justin, Angela, Megan, Gianna and Carissa; two stepgrandchildren, Kyle and Cole and one sister Helen Drew Grounds of Benton. John graduated from Benton High School in 1950. After retiring from Old Ben Coal Company, he enjoyed farming, and operated a tire business at his farm. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Dugger was born in Rend City on Oct. 23, 1923, to William and Beulah (Gilbreath) Dugger. On Aug. 28, 1954 in Benton, he married Susan M. Caulfield. She survives. He was a retired coal miner, woking at Old Ben Mines #14 and #21. A member of the UMWA Local 1124, he was an Army veteran of World War II, member of AARP, a lifetime member of the Benton VFW Post 2671, American Legion Post #280, the Boneyard Boccie Ball Club and Benton Eagles. Survivors include his wife, Sue Dugger of West City and a special friend, Ruby Arview of Thompsonville. His parents and one son, Larry Lee Dugger preceded him in death.

Mrs. Edwards was born on Nov. 4, 1924, in Gorham, the daughter of Harry and Matilda Armstrong. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Eickelman was born on Dec. 17, 1915, in Christopher, the daughter of Leopold and Sophia (Maras) Kauzlarich. She married Eugene S. Eickelman, who died on Jan. 19, 1987. She was a school teacher and a homemaker. She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughter of America, Girl Scout volunteer, Croatian Fraternal Union, Altar Society, Christopher Senior Citizens, Herrin Senior Citizens. Michael Elko, 79, of 204 S. McDyby St., died at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 1999 in his home. Marguerite (Waller) Fisher, 92, formerly of Benton, died at 10:45 a. m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999 in Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. According to Mrs. Fisher's wishes, she has been cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date. All arrangements are by York Funeral Home in Wayne City. Mrs. Fisher was born on Oct. 22, 1907, in Hamilton County, the daughter of William and Mabel (Hunt) Waller. She was married to Homer C. Fisher on May 16, 1931, in Springfield. He died in 1986. She was a teacher many years ago at Benton area schools and a music teacher in Lincoln. She had attended Millikan University, SIU Carbondale, and the Chicago College of Music. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Benton. Survivors include one son, Joseph Steven Fisher and wife Sandy of Key Largo, Fla.; three grandchilden, Anthony Stephen Fisher and wife Brenda of Key Largo, Fla., Angla Marie Ash and husband Brian of Cuba, New York, Stanley Joseph Fisher and wife Sandy of Al.; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Frank Bonan of McLeansboro; one brother, W.H."Bill" Waller of Cody, Wyoming. Mr. Flaherty was born March 27, 1915 in Wapella, Ill., the son of James T. and Kathryn Byrns Flaherty. He married Marjorie Hill who died May 18, 1998. Mr. Flaherty was a federal grain inspector. He was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Flaherty is survived by daughter, Beverly Rolla, Christopher and Agnes Sylvia Becker, Elmhurst, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and one sister.

He was a retired coal miner and a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Sesser. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the U.M.W.A. American Legion Bates Post 560. A lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Gilbreath was a retired coal miner, having last worked at Old Ben #14. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Rend City Baptist Church, the U.M.W.A. Local 1545 and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Clarence Ray "Curney" Glenn, 76, died at 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 29 with the Rev. Randy Hayes officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Those attending the graveside services are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Friday morning. Visitation will be held at the Hughey Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Mr. Glenn was born Nov. 18, 1922, in Jefferson County, the son of Orville and Doll Bain Glenn. They preceded him in death. He married Helen B. Jones in 1941 and she survives. Mr. Glenn was employed for several years at the Ford Motor Company in Chicago Heights and later, until retirement, was employed at Turco Manufacturing Company in DuQuoin as a machine repairman. He was a member of the Westside Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge No. 31 AF & AM, American Legion Post No. 141 in Mt. Vernon and was a post commander and was a lifetime member of the Rend Lake Lunker Busters. He is survived by his wife Helen, Mt. Vernon; daughters, Linda Karch and husband the Rev. Gary Karch, Mt. Vernon, Mickey Burwell and husband Jerry, Mt. Vernon; sons, Larry R. Glenn, Mt. Vernon, Mike Glenn and wife Donna, Mt. Phillip H. Greenwood, died at the Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin, at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, in the Mulkeytown Christian Church with Revs. Dean Guymon and Jerry Aken officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Sesser. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Monday at the Gilbert Funeral Home, Christopher, and from noon until time of service at the church on Tuesday. Mr. Greenwood was born on Jan. 1, 1904, in Mulkeytown, the son of George t. and Nellie (Tinsley) Greenwood. He was married to the former Florence Hill who preceded him in death and later married Helen Maxedon Greenwood, who survives. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Mulkeytown Christian Church. He served 22 years on the Farm Bureau Board. In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by two stepsons, J.C. Baumgarte and family of Herrin, and Wayne Baumgarte and family of Chicago; a sister-in-law Stella Greenwood, several nieces and nephews. Five brothers and six sisters preceded him in death.

Scott E. Gulley, 37, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, in the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home, with the Revs. Larry Cook and Dale Carson officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday to the funeral home. Scott was born in Benton on Sept. 21, 1961, the son of Ralph E. and Stella (Hall) Gulley. On July 9, 1983, he married Rebecca S. (Bays) Gulley. She survives. Mr. Gulley worked for Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. in Marion, and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his wife Rebecca, of Benton, he is survived by a son, Justin Gulley at home; a daughter, Melissa Gulley at home; his parents, Ralph E. and Stella Gulley of Benton; a brother, Stephen Gulley of Benton; a sister, Robyn Dees and husband Michael of Lake in the Hills; two nieces, Tiffany Dees and Breanna Gulley; his mother-in-law, Aline Bays of Sesser. Scott was a very giving person. A loving husband, father, son and brother. He had made the choice of giving the gift of life to others by being an organ donor. His grandparents, Fred and Lossie Gulley, Earl and Ruth Hall and his father-in-law Albert Bays, preceded him in death.
