Origins of the Redman family of Stokes County

The Redman family of Stokes county, NC has received little attention in genealogy. I have found no published family histories or much in the way of oral family history. Recently, several researchers has emerged to help fill this void. I have turned to Virginia records to provide some of the missing pieces on Abraham Redman.
In the first quarter of the 19th century, several men by the name of Redman appear in Stokes county. Jacob Redman is the earliest. It is assumed that these families came to Stokes, but did not stay long moving on to the West. These people left few records in Stokes to clearly identify thier kinship towards each other, but from probate records found elsewhere and from naming patterns it appears likely that they are all kin to Abraham Redman. The Redmans in Stokes appear to have come from Culpepper Co., Virginia, though Abraham is traced back only to Louisa County, Virginia.

Abraham Redman (c1749-1835)

Abraham is the earliest Redman ancestor that I have found for my line. He is clearly related to the other Redmans in the county of Stokes which he followed in emigration from Louisa County, Virginia. Abraham left records in Stokes county, most importantly his will and probate, which clearly list his children. In addition to the Stokes records, Abraham also left detailed records in Louisa County, Virginia documenting his two marriages, baptism of his two eldest children, and land records.
