The
Case of the Disappearing Frogs
The Oregon Coast Aquarium has
produced this wonderfully inventive and instructional site, structured as an
old-fashioned whodunit. Users are introduced to the crime (disappearing
frogs worldwide) and the suspects (which include toxins, UV radiation,
pollution, habitat destruction, invasive species, and acid rain). They
are then allowed to make interrogations from which they can attempt to solve
the mystery. K-6 students can then be "deputized" to pursue
additional case assignments.
Deformed
Frogs Mystery
This SCOPE classroom project provides resources
with which to investigate current hypotheses regarding amphibian declines,
and then shows how to frame an argument for a classroom debate of the
hypotheses.
Virtual
Frog Dissection Kit
This interactive program is part of the
"Whole Frog" project. The program allows interactive dissection of
a frog, and includes the capability to make on-the-fly movies. A browser
that supports forms and sensitive images is needed. The dissection kit is
available in a number of languages
The
Whole Frog Project
Computers can't teach everything in
anatomy, but they can teach some things better, either by themselves or
through synergy with conventional methods. Try out this award-winning
virtual frog as a case in point.
