Yahoo! GeoCities
I am really glad that you joined us and made your homestead at Yahoo! GeoCities - or are considering it! I hope that you will also find Yahoo! GeoCities a very friendly, user-oriented, and family-safe web domain that you can easily call your second home.
Before GeoCities merged with Yahoo!, and for a short time afterwards, it was set up like large online metropolis and it had various "neighborhoods." What was so great and fun about each different neighborhood was it's own special "theme" - we started our homestead at Heartland because it was the place based on the theme of "family values" and family life.
For the time being, you can still affiliate your webpage with one of the different neighborhoods through updating your personal Yahoo! GeoCities account. But finding these old neighborhoods is a bit tricky. That's because Yahoo! GeoCities is redesigning the way they categorize sites. But just in case you are ever interested (*wink*), click here to discover all the different neighborhoods that once shaped GeoCities as the virtual metropolis it was. Consider Cross-Browser Compatibility and Access
- Bobby Compliance - Could you imagine just for a moment that whenever you turned on your browser to visit all sorts of different websites, that some would appear all mixed-up or with pictures that you could not make heads-or-tails of? Or your friends easily understood a page but it made absolutely no sense to you? That is somewhat like the experience of many disabled persons when they browse the web - their access to information available to most is limited because of the HTML formatting of a page. Learn how to make your site accessible to all by visiting Bobby - then apply what you learned to earn that "Bobby Approved" certificate that proclaims your site disability compliant!
- "Viewable With Any Browser" - Visit this campaign for a non-browser specific WWW site. Created by professional corporate webmaster, Cari D. Burstein, who not only rebels against those "Best Viewed in..." recommendations on webpages, but also provides a common-sense argument on why making your webpages accessible by all browsers will help you make the best possible webpages that you can. Lots of great information is here - a "Do Not Miss" site!
