LANE GATHERING AT NEWPORT, ARKANSAS In 1959, shortly after the death of Mannie Lee, his wife and companion of 58 years, Charles Richard Lane gathered with his children and their families at the home of his oldest living son, Floyd Erma Layne. It had become a tradition for the children to meet in September at their parents house and celebrate Richard and Mannie’s birthdays. It was decided at this meeting to continue this tradition and gather at their own homes , starting with the oldest and continue on to the youngest George Henry Lane. With this decision The Lane/Layne Family Reunion that we have enjoyed these 40 something years began. To place this in history: Dwight D. Eisenhower was President, Oliver Fabus was Governor of Arkansas, Alaska and Hawaii became states, Fidel Castro took over Cuba and the Viet Nam War started. |
