Married : Otto Buege 5/31/1925
Before she married Otto (May 31, 1925 - but not sure as the date of the trip)
she took a trip to Kissimmee, Florida to camp in tents. While there,
a windy rain storm developed and all of the tents except one was knocked over in the wind. The one standing was the one Mary was in; she staked the tent!
She and Otto lived for many years on a farm.
Mary was a school teacher, and taught her two daughters at home.
She played the piano and sang beautifully. With the help of her mother, she taught her daughter Arla to make a quilt.
Mary drew and painted pictures with oils, watercolor and charcoal.
When the daughters were grown, she sometimes hid dirty dishes, to do later. During a visit by Arla, husband and kids, the unaware son-in-law offered
himself and Arla to do the dishes. Soon, boxes of dirty dishes appeared from under the sink, more boxes from the steps leading to the basement and more boxes
from the basement. The offer was never made again on subsequent visits.
In later life, she and Otto gave all their property to their church in exchange
for living at Chelsea (Michigan) retirement complex. The piano went with them.
It was placed in a large room with many other pianos,
so the residents could enjoy their music there.
There were many couches to sit on in the room to entertain guests
and visit with other residents.

They stayed in an apartment area with a call bell in the bathroom.
In the apartment were a stove, sink and refrigerator for snacks,
but the couple went to the dining room for meals.
Mary became more frail and moved into the hospital section of the home.
After her health failed and she no longer recognized her family,
she still attended church services as she had done all her life, and knew
the words to each hymn sung. She still sang beautifully.
She died at the Chelsea Home on August 22, 1982
and was buried at Martinsville Cemetery, Sumpter Township, Michigan.

Went by 'Otto'.
Was a farmer. Chewed tobacco, but seldom in the house. Mary wouldn't allow that. At their house in Bellevue, played horse shoes. There was a well in the yard that had a hand pump. He had a tractor in the back yard, Otto said it would not start as it was very old. It had steel tires, and started with a crank. One day grand-daughter Shirley added some gas, then cranked and cranked. All of sudden the tractor started and her sister Caroll started going across the yard on it. Otto and daughter Arla came out and yelled at them and stoped the tractor .
At the nursing home in Chelsea, he had a flower garden there that he tended well. He enjoyed helping who he called 'the old people' at the nursing home.

From "The Family Tree and History of Loyal E. Bunce 1967" by Lydia Bunce:
"Another son of Olivers was Edgar. When my mother was a teenager her brother Angus Lester was in a Sunday school class taught by Edgar Bunce. Edgar's wife, Lydia Bunce taught the class my mother was in. Edgar had two or three sons. I don't know where they went. Edgar could write beautifully. He was very musical, played different instruments. My grandparents had a photograph of him and his family, another photo of Edgar and his set of drums.
When I was a child I used to be at my grandmothers home a lot. She lived on Thorne Road, just north of the Bader Road. The land went back as far as the Kalamazoo River. ...
People did not buy their meat. They killed their own pigs or beef. Men would come from miles around to help. Their wives might also come to help the woman take care of the lard and the head. People did not pay in money for the help. They gave them liver and pieces of side pork.
When my grandparents butchered pigs, Edgar came. He must have lived quite a ways, because he stayed over night. He would soak a pig bladder in salt water over night, clean it up good, tie a string around one end and put a stem of a new white clay pipe in the other end and blow it up. It made a nice big clean balloon. The only kind of balloon I ever had. He would take off his shoes and play with me by sitting in a chair and kicking the balloon every time it came near him. I liked him very much."

From Biographical History of Allen County, OHIO, thanks to Kathleen Ruhlen "One of the most distinguished families of Allen county, Ohio, is that of which the history is here presented. Abraham Ward, in 1833, removed from Jackson township, Pickaway county, Ohio, to Allen county, but was born in what is now West Virginia. His ancestry were among those who settled early at Plymouth, Mass., and who came originally from England; and the descendants of those early emigrants may now be found in all parts of the United States. Abraham Ward was a son of Joseph Ward, a soldier in the Revolutionary war, who after the close of that war settled in Norfolk, Va. Later he removed to Moorefield, in Hardy county, now in West Virginia, where he died. Abraham, following the example of his father, became a soldier in the war of 1812, in an Ohio regiment. He married Miss Christiana Johnson, by whom he had two children, Joseph and John. After the death of Mrs. Ward, Mr. Ward married again, but the maiden name of his second wife is not now known. By this second marriage he had four children--two sons and two daughters, and in the fullness of time he died in Jackson township, Allen county."
D.O.B. 1795 Moorefield, Virginia
From Historical Atlas of Paulding County Ohio, thanks to Kathleen Ruhlen "John Ward the father of our subject was the eldest son; his early life was spent in Champaign county. He had but few opportunities for an education. He was reared a farmer and when a young man engaged in transporting by team (the only means in those days) the products of the farms to the Cincinnati and Louisville, Ky., markets. About 1830 he went to what is now Allen county, and purchased 80 acres of land in Bath township. When Allen county was organized in 1830, he was appointed clerk of the court, and was elected the second recorder, which position he filled until his death, which occurred in 1842. At the breaking out of the war of 1812, he offered himself for enlistment, but being under size, he was not accepted. His evident disappointment attracted the notice of Gov. Vance, who commissioned him a captain in the state militia, and at his death he held a commission in the state militia of brigadier-general of the Twelfth division. Politically he was a democrat and was a power in his party, and one of the leading democrats of the county. In his religious belief he was a Presbyterian, in which church he was an elder for many years."
From Biographical HIstory of Allen County, Ohio, thanks to Kathleen Ruhlen "John Ward, the second son of Abraham and Christiana Ward, was born in Moorefield, Va., in 1795, and removed to Champaign county, Ohio, in 1812, locating in Union township. In January, 1830, he removed to Allen county, having in 1828 entered eighty acres of land in Bath township. Upon arriving in Allen county and getting settled, he engaged in teaching a select school in the winter time, and in farming in the summer season. He took a very active part in the organization of Allen county, and was appointed the first clerk of the county court, under the old constitution, in which capacity he served until his death, December 25, 1842. He also filled the office of recorder several terms. Beside being active and prominent in these local ways, he was also prominent in the military affairs of the state, holding commissions as captain, colonel and brigadier-general. Politically he was a democrat and religiously he was a Presbyterian, assisting to organize the Presbyterian church at Lima, and serving therein as an elder for many years."

He settled in Dorchester, Mass. But in 1636 moved to Windsor, Conn.
He was a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1637. He was the

The oldest would have at the most, only 15. How would you like moving to the wilderness with 5 small children and then have another 5 in the next 15 years?"
Seems Nancy went to live with her son Martin in Hillsdale County after her husband died.
