LAURA D. JOHNSON                               RESUME OF QUALIFICATIONS

OBJECTIVE: To gain stimulating, new TEACHING PROFESSIONAL position through the use of my talents, successful experiences in public school systems and academic training.
BACKGROUND HIGHLIGHTS:

Experience: Noteworthy achievement in all grades and several areas of exceptionalities of elementary teaching, as well as a mixture of instruction in a secondary private school, adult education and Business College.

As an elementary educator, teaching from 7 to 35 children in a variety of public school settings, I have utilized both co-operative learning and individualization instructional techniques because I believe children learn through different modalities and at different speeds. I believe in and use "hands-on" learning as much as possible in my classroom.

Lacking only one graduate course from becoming a certified Reading Specialist, I really focus on reading in my classroom.  In a sample test group where my EMH students were the "old " group with "old " materials, we came out as well as the new innovative group.  I also keep  excellent records and have been used as a "model" to train "out-of-field" ESE teachers.  I  have been an active faculty member, committee member/chairperson, team leader, and workshop trainee. Currently I am a peer teacher developing a beginning teacher.

Strengths I not only love to teach children, but I really love the children I teach. (Being a foster parent for over 15 years--you learn to love every child.) I  guess in many instances I become the parent my student no longer has (for whatever reason). This has included having a clothing closed in my classroom, seeking out and gathering up 10 pairs of tennis shoes donated from local merchants, taking four students  to and from a free camp for underprivileged children over 60 miles away, signing some of my students up for "Secret Santa" Christmas presents".  In addition to that, over the years , my boys and I have bought jackets, underwear and socks for ONE family with seven children (three were students in my classroom).
