Seventh-day Adventist Missions in Southern Africa Irwin was reared on mission stations in Africa. I come from a line of Seventh-day Adventist pioneer missionaries. I have a soft spot in my heart for Adventist Missions in southern Africa. This is a a web page about SDA missions in southern Africa, basically from about the equator south. I'd like to collect a little of the stories of the starting of some of these missions and what mission life was like for foreign missionaries. I envision covering the mission period of European missionaries from the start at Solusi in 1894, to about the mid-1960s.
My experience is that mission life during the first part of the 20th century gave one a different outlook on life. If you served at or grew up on a mission station and have a short experience of what that was like or if you can help fill in the table below or have copies of pictures and/or maps you could e-mail or loan to me, I will post them on this page so all of us "old timers" can enjoy them and reminisce a bit about what mission life was like. FAMA - Fellowhip of Adventist Missionaries to Africa - is a new site dedicated to former missionaries to Africa. Here is a list of missions I have gleaned from the SDA Encyclopedia. Some of these missions have entries that I have gleaned from here and there. Maybe you can add something for some of them. |
