What Some Oromo Elders
Say
We are the most thinly scattered
even among diaspora Oromos. We need a space of own to come together
with elders elsewhere. Back home our role would have been to educate the
youngest ones. Here, our grand children don't even speak our language.
Our children don't have time for us. They have to run to support their
families. Here, elders don't have the authority and respect we have back
home. The only place we can find what we have lost in terms of respect
and authority is among ourselves in our own space. Let us come together
to enjoy each other's company, to reminisce, to reflect on the past, present
and future, and to explore our role in this strange environment. If you
