This is an interactive page for Oromo women in their capacities both as individuals and women's groups around the world. As in any male-dominated communities, women in Oromo communities also suffer the experiences of gender oppression. To have a taste of such oppression and what some Oromo women feel about it, please read article on VOICES OF OROMO WOMEN . Right now as you read, there are thousands of Oromo women stranded in refugee camps with their children. There are many who are resettled in big cities in the West, but live in precarious situations. This Page is designed to bring Oromo women together. It is to create a space for women's time apart. A space where we share our experiences -- our experiences of both oppression and resistance. This is a space where we can share both the weaknesses and strengths of our struggle. It is a space where we learn from our mistakes and forge ahead with our strengths. It is where we strategize our resistance and coordinate our struggle for liberation. If we really think about it, we really are resourceful. We just have to pool our them. Would you be willing to serve as a contact person? Would you like to serve as a nucleus to join other nuclei to bring others who don't have access to computers or the Internet? Would you like to volunteer as a counselor? Would you like to send us articles? Would you like to just send us your comments and suggestions, thus contributing your ideas to the development of this web site? Please contact me. As you can see, this is just the beginning of the process. With your participation, it will grow into a full-blown women's interactive space, a space where Oromo women can negotiate voice and meaning among themselves, among other Oromos, among other women's groups and individuals around the world.
