2007: 5000 miles or so. A mountain tour! Big Horns, Absarokas/Bear Tooth Pass, Yellowstone, a couple of cyclones, Cranbrook - AB Canada, Coeur d'Alene/Spokane, down the Salmon Highway and over to Tetonia, breezed right thru Jackson Hole, rode up Pike's Peak, back thru Kansas, Missouri and home. A lot of unusually hot weather and very little rain. What scenery! Would be nice to move to Pinedale or Cora, Wyoming. BTW: Pike's Peak is still paved only on the bottom half or so, the rest is crushed granite and dirt. Hairpin switchbacks and ruts. NO GUARDRAILS in Colorado must be a rule! Not for the faint of heart or a newbie. AWESOME!
2006: 2600 miles or so. Keystone & the Battle Creek Lodge & Sturgis, S.D. Got there Sunday just after the rally was over. All the bargain t-shirts & stuff were about gone. No crowds. They were packing and shipping the classic bikes out of the Broken Spoke for display in Daytona. Heard lots of local stories about colors groups battling it out in the hills & in Sioux Falls. Headed back after 3 nights to stay in E. Lake Okoboji, Iowa. Felt exactly like being in the Great Lakes area. One of the best places I've been in Iowa.
2005: 5500+ mile ride thru Keystone/Sturgis, S.D. (Stayed 5 nights at the Battle Creek Lodge in Keystone. Jim Johnson takes kind and personal care of his guests in this clean and modest place. You'll feel like you are staying with a favorite Uncle!) We then headed up to Montana (Bear Tooth Pass was closed!). 2 Nights at Glacier Park (it poured rain and then snowed a bit on us the last day!) Up thru Carway, Alberta ...Lethbridge ...Medicine Hat ...Saskatoon, Saskatchawan (Canadian National HOG Rally) ...Winnipeg, Manitoba ...2 nights at Thunder Bay, Ontario ...back into the USA at Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario ...1 night at Mackinaw City, Michigan. Easy ride home from there. Met a lot of good & interesting people. Also, it seems like there is always 1 special angel/person that makes contact with us in each city and town, and helps us on our way.
2004: Really more of a 'pie run'. 2 Day ride out to Keystone/Sturgis, S.D., spent 1 day seeing the sights ...then called back to Indiana r/t family emergency at home. Did buy a t-shirt! Rode back in 2 days.
2003: A 4600+ mile ride thru Keystone/Sturgis, S.D., the Badlands, the National Grasslands/Wind River Valley/DuBois, WY, the Tetons and Yellowstone, out the N.E. entrance (the BEST riding/scenery) and over the Bear Tooth Pass into Red Lodge, MT. Came back via Chief Joseph Hwy, Devil's Tower, and even stayed at famous ol' Wall, SD (a worthwhile tourist trap ...the Cactus Bar has great Bloody Mary's ...pickle on the side, please ...and the restaurant has good food. Anne's Motel is back off the highway, clean and modern, and $20. cheaper than the usual chains). We headed home from there. Almost no rain this trip, except 20 miles of hail and lightning along a ridge in the Black Hills one night ...still somehow enjoyable. Hey, we like to ride and that's just part of it. We passed MANY trucks and cars trailering beautiful, road capable bikes.
I am most proud of being a member of the Motor Maids Inc. Started in 1940 by Linda Dugeau, it is the longest existing female owner-riders organization in America. The following is a picture of our first president ...the lady was a rider.
