I worked at the Woodland Trails day camp this summer. There was only one brownie from my troop there ( my daughter), but I had 9 girls all together in our unit. There was another leader and a mom in our unit. It was a lot fun. We did many things to keep us busy during the day.
Then we went to our unit, took attendance. We would work on try-its while there wasn't any activities scheduled for us to do. Here are the try-it that we earned at camp:
For safety we had the JLs teach them CPR for choking, and then they did Jackknife safety. We talked about how to act around a campfire and fire safety. I printed out a paper for each girl to color that had Stop, drop & Roll on it. I got them from the State Police in Alaska's Safety Web site. Once on the home site, click on Division of Alaskan State Troopers, Then Click on Safety Bears page.
For Art to wear we: made a belt with square knots, face painted (almost everyday!!!), made masks, decorated sun visors, and made paper Mache.
For Outdoor Adventurer we: Went on hikes, made a neighborhood map ( all the units in the camp were our neighbors.), attended day camp, pocket knife safety.
For Girl Scout Ways we: Made sit upons, smores over the fire, taught a new girl the gs promise, handshake, quite sign., Flag ceremony.
For Outdoor Fun we: did trail signs, I printed out the ecology hunt & touch, smell & listen, into a little book for the girl to take on their hikes and cross off what matched. ( I had to put pictures on them because some girls were to young to read) You can see this by clicking here.
For Science Wonders we: made recycled paper, made homegrown crystals, Chemistry magic with lemon aid, and we made our own bubble and wands.
For Outdoor happenings we: made a print of a minks foot, we made the wind direction finders ( from the Brownie Handbook), set out cups of water & saw the water evaporate, and we made rocks out of plaster/dirt/pebbles.
We made beadie Buddies with pony beads. I found a web page with thousands of patterns for pony beads. There is even one for a girl scout and a trefoil. You have to check this site out if you love to make beadies. This site also has craft pages & brownie Try-its ideas.
I learned how to make
fire starters and other ways to cook on the fire. We cooked
chocolate chip cookies on the fire one day with a box oven. I have found a web page
with a campfire cookbook to download. We learned knot tying. There is a
great web page that has
