Footprints on my Heart

clear.gif (848 bytes) The love for the ocean is a gift from my father to me.  I have many fond memories connected to it and I like to let my thoughts drift back to them whenever I want to reflect on my life, ponder or just daydream. My favorite time is not when the sun is at its highest and the sand is too hot to walk on but sunset.  There's something magical about watching the sun set on the ocean.

There's lots to see here and if you stroll down the beach you can "collect" a little marine image which will open up to a new page. These pages are very special and dear to me. The poems on this page are my favorites and reflect my feelings about friendship, faith, love and life. I tried to select each poem so it will open to the appropriate page.

Please enjoy your stay and return as often as you like....

Footprints in the Sand

o.gif (209 bytes)ne night I had a dream. I was walking along the beach with the Lord, and across the skies flashed scenes from my life. In each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One was mine and one was the Lords. When  the
last scene of my life appeared before me I looked back at the footprints in the sand, and, to my surprise, I noticed that many times along the path of my life there was only one set of footprints. And I noticed that it was at the lowest and saddest times in my life. I asked the Lord about it;
"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk with me all the way. But I notice that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set
of footprints. I do not understand why you left my side when I needed you most." The Lord said: "My precious child, I never left you during your time of trial. Where you see only one set of footprints, I was carrying you."

The best and most beautiful
things in the world
cannot be seen
or even touched.
They must be felt
with the heart

-Helen Keller-

If I can stop one Heart

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

Stanzas for Music

There be none of Beauty's daughters
With a magic like thee;
And like music on the waters
Is thy sweet voice to me:
When, as if its sound were causing
The charmed ocean's pausing,
The waves lie still and gleaming,
And the lull'd winds seem dreaming:

And the midnight moon is weaving
Her bright chain o'er the deep;
Whose breast is gently heaving,
As an infant's asleep:
So the spirit bows before thee,
To listen and adore thee;
With a full but soft emotion,
Like the swell of Summer's ocean.

s.gif (193 bytes)ome people come into our lives and quickly go.
Some people move our souls to dance.
They awaken us to understanding
with the passing whisper of their wisdom.
s.gif (193 bytes)ome people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon.
They stay in our lives for awhile,
leave footprints on our hearts,
and we are never, ever the same.

Sonnet XLIII

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,-- I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.
