I thought you would like to see some pictures of Cape Town and surroundings. As I have mentioned before, we have everything here. Table Mountain is a landmark, and whenever we have been away we feel truly "back home" when we see Table Mountain in the distance. We have a "terrible" wind that is seasonal, it is called the South Easter. The South Easter causes the clouds to roll in which then cover the mountain with its traditional "table cloth".
These are the new cable cars which replaced the original cars a year ago.
Here is a photograph of Cape Town taken from "across" the Bay, Blaauwbergstrand.
Next is an aerial picture of Cape Town.
Taking a drive through to Cape Point is very scenic. Cape Point is generally called the southern most tip of Africa, where the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans meet. This may be true, but the genuine most southern tip of Africa is Cape Aghullas, but this is not as accessible to tourists. Here is a picture of Cape Point.
Another beautiful place is Hout Bay. We used to live there when Mike was working for a fishing company, but moved when we decided to purchase our own home.
We have an island "in front" of Cape Town, which is called Robben Island, which prior to 1994 was the "Alcatraz" of South Africa. In those earlier years it was used as a prison for political prisoners, the most famous of which is our current State President, Nelson Mandela. Here is Robben Island.
About 10 minutes drive from our home, we have the beautiful National Botanical gardens of Kirstenbosch. Here you can wander around and look at a large variety of plants and trees. There is also a lovely Tea Garden and Restaurant, where you can sit and enjoy the surroundings while having something to eat and drink .Here is a picture of Kirstenbosch.
An hours drive up the west coast will show you a completely different kind of flower. In Spring time, after the first rains, the country is blanketed with natural wild flowers. Here are two pictures of some of the variety of wild flowers.
Another place I am sure you have heard quite a bit about is our Waterfront. The Waterfront is a very busy and popular tourist attraction(and for the locals)and is always teeming with a cosmopolitan crowd. It also has a few top class hotels, where many celebraties stay when they come to Cape Town.
Another wonderful sight is Cape Town at dawn, with Table Mountain, Lion's Head and Signal Hill in the background.
