Rebecca and her proud daddy minutes after her birth!

June 19, 2000

Mom, baby and dad are doing fine, though after 14 hours of labour Mary is resting comfortably at Marienhospital in Bruehl.
According to a first phone call with grandma Irene (who got to hold the little cuty pie when she was only minutes old ...) Rebecca has wonderful round apple cheeks, dark button eyes and beautiful black long straight hair on her little round head. Of course, daddy Stefan was with Mary at all times and even cut the umbilical cord.

Please join me in congratulating Stefan and Mary
on the newest and certainly cutest Kaschke family member!!!

Unfortunately I don't have any new Ultrasound photos to show off. Stefan told me, the baby is so big by now, that the photos don't show much of anything unless of course you are there to see the heartbeat :-> Due date is June 15th but I am sure Mary would like the little tyke born rather sooner than later :->
According to grandma Kaschke, everything is ready for the baby. Last week, they went to pick up the carriage/stroller at Babymarkt and what do you know, the thing will not fit in Stefan's cool Puma ... OH NO! Does that mean he will have to give up his cool sports car and get A MINIVAN????
As you may have noticed I wrote this note in blue ... I am sure it will be a little girl but hey, you never know ...
The next update will probably the birth announcement YEAH! I can't wait! And Stefan promised to call me from the hospital AS SOON as the baby was born. He better!
Til then! Auntie Sabine

Things are starting to become serious. The baby's room is all set, the babystroller on order and last week Mary, Stefan and my mom took a tour of the brithing facilities at the hospital in Bruehl. Unfortunately the hospital was so busy that all LDR rooms were in use ... but at least Stefan had a chance to do a dry run for the fastest route to the hospital.
Grandma Kaschke is pre-washing all the little baby shirts, shorts and socks and they are drying on the clothes line and she is just all gaga over how tiny they are :-> Hey baby! We are ready for you!!!!
27. März 2000
This was taken during an ultrasound on March 27, 2000 ... the little squirt already took of the habit of thumb sucking ... and from the lack of 'items' seen on this ultrasound I am now willing to bet on a girl. Anyone want to take me up on that?

And because I am trying to be the best-informed aunt in the world
and in practice for whatever babies we might add to this family in the future,
I searched the net high and low for informative websites and
have come up with some really good ones! Check them out!
The list contains German and Englisch sites!

Viel Info!!
www.pregnancytoday.com This is where I got most of my info. Divided into preconception, pregnancy, birthstories, breastfeeding, toddler, preteen etc etc .. I am addicted to their birthstories section and have been following along the preconception and pregnancy diaries of many of the women on the site for months. Absolutely my favourite site!
www.childbirth.org Their motto is Birth is a natural process, not a medical procedure and they give you all the info you are looking for. Also has a birthstories section!
rainbow-brigade.com/samuel.htm The story of little Samuel who had lifesaving surgery in his mother's womb, when he was a 21-week old fetus. The amazing photograph of his tiny hand, reading out of the womb during surgey to hold the surgeon's hand touches your heart.
