WELCOME to the newsletter site at the Miles City Genealogical Society web page.
We would like to inform you that the Southeastern Montana Research Library is closed due to funding concerns and lack of volunteers. However, the Miles City Genealogical Society continues to be active. Because of the small number of volunteers, we are also suspending our offer of research.
We are now putting all our efforts towards completing our video project. Past projects, such as our publications and map have been so well received, that we feel there would be a tremendous amount of interest in this video.
The video project is based on a series of home movies taken in Miles City between 1934-1956, by local mail carrier Henry Selbman. He was an amateur photographer and captured many interesting events in the area at this time. The films provide a rare look at Miles City just before, during and after World War II. To preserve these scenes, we are creating a video of highlights from the movies. This is a multi-phase project. Currently, we have had the original 8mm film transferred onto video, and are in the process of editing, but it's hard to make decisions about the best scenes! As with the map, our final version will be made available for sale to the public. All the funds from these sales will be used to help carry out new projects, and perhaps get the Research Library going again.
