Chester Clyde "Ted" Hancock,
93, son of John Anderson and Cora Pharris Hancock,
was born May 26, 1906, at Dixon Missouri. He died
March 14, 2000, at his home at St. James, Missouri.
He married Irene E. Gray Hancock April 19, 1943.
They had six children.
Mr. Hancock served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to
1945 during World War II. he was a police officer at
St. James, Missouri for 10 years and a farmer, living
in the St. James area for more then 50 years.
He had many musical talents and was a story teller.
He had undergone 35 radiation treatments for cancer,
bleeding ulcers and received a pace maker. At 92, he
still drove to town twice a week, walked to his daughter's
and to the mailbox as many as three times a day.
About a year ago, he broke a hip. He was preceded in
death by his parents, one grandson, one great-grandson,
five brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Irene, of the home; six children,
Jenny Wehmeyer, Vernita Morris, Velmer Hancock and
Venton Hancock of St. James, Vernon Hancock of Rolla,
Missouri, Vera Smith of Gonzales, La., and Jeannie
Gambardella of Buena Park, Calif.; one brother, Paul
Hancock of Bucyrus, Missouri; one sister, Clara Hart of
Carthage, Missouri; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-
grandchildren.
Services were March 18 at the James and Gahr
Mortuary Chapel in St. James with Leslie Koerber
officiating. Burial was in the Hancock Family Cemetery.
