This is an open storybook of my life, and my dear family. I was born
on April 11, 1957, in the territory of Hawaii, and adopted at the
very young age of 3 days old, to a middle aged couple, George and
Karen, who raised me as their only child.
My adopted parents wedding May 21, 1949.
I attended MaeMae Elementary School for kindergarten, then attended
St. Andrew's Priory, grades 1 thru 4, then on to Pauoa Elementary
School for 5th and 6th grade. The office in the Intermediate School
hich I was supposed to attend was burnt down so all the 7th graders
had to attend Central Intermediate School. Went to Kawananakoa
Intermediate for 8th and 9th, and I went on to McKinley High School,
and graduated from there in the year 1975.
I grew up with a very verbally and physcially abusive adopted mother,
and an adopted dad who was always there for me. He was my mentor,
and I know he didn't have a very happy life with my adopted mother
either.
(Daddy, I love you!!)
As I grew up, I was never told that I was adopted until one day
when I was 18, my friends and I were sitting in Ed and Don's Ice
Cream Parlor in Ala Moana Shopping Center, my very dear friend told
me that I should ask my parents about being adopted. I never found
out how she knew, but went directly home, and asked my dad first.
He told me to ask my mom, and I did. She didn't want to tell me,
but finally did. I felt my life had crumbled, and I was just living
a life of lies. I remember asking my parents as I grew up, and they
always denied that I was adopted. I remember telling them that I
wouldn't go and search for my birth mother until they were gone. I
knew that if i did search on my own, they would be very hurt.
Warren and I
I went on with my life, going to Kapiolani Community College, and
working part-time at Kuakini Medical Center where I met my husband,
Warren Rodrigues. Our first date was on December 10, 1977, and we
were married on May 12, 1979 at Puu Ualakaa State Park on the tip of
Tantalus. It was such a romantic setting, getting married close to
heaven. We honeymooned on the island of Kauai, and Maui, then
settled in as a married couple above his parents house in Kalihi.
My Daughter, Kristy
Our daughter, Kristy Lynn Okada Rodrigues was born on her due date,
Saturday, December 25, 1982 at 12:17pm at Kapiolani Hospital. Yes,
folks on Christmas Day. She was 7 lbs. 4 oz., and 19". I remember
struggling to give birth to her. I went into labor on Thursday,
December 23rd, and the doctor thought that I would give birth to her
on Christmas eve.
Well, with the contractions being far apart, I went on with all the
festivities, Warren and I, went to our Christmas eve dinner together
at the Sheraton-Waikiki Hotel, Oceanarium restaurant, and that's when
my contractions became closer together and stronger. Warren asked me
if I wanted to go to the hospital from there, but I told him lets go
home, and open our gifts first, so we went home! We opened all our
gifts, then he told me to call his mom, who's a nurse, if it was time
to go to the hospital. Boy, did she panic! She sent us right to the
hospital! When we arrived at 11:30pm, we were told that I wouldn't be
giving birth for a while ye, so Warren was sent home. I suffered it
alone all thru the nite, with no one with me. Finally at 10am
Christmas morning, the doctor decided to do a c-section on me since
the baby and I were in distress. I remember it so clearly, it seems
like just yesterday that she was born.

Kristy, you are my first, and my dear daughter, and you have grown
up to be a beautiful young lady! I love you, hon!!
My Miscarriage
I always think of this baby that never breathed a single breath of air.
He/she will always be in my heart. I remember going for my D & C the
day before Warren, Kristy, and I left for our vacation to California
in May of 1986. Kristy and I still talk about this baby, and it will
always be remembered.
Little one, mommy will be with you one day.....
My Son, Kevin
My son was conceived a month after I had my ovarian tumor removed.
Yes, we surprised everyone with the news that I was pregnant! We all
thought that I could never conceive again, being that I had only one
ovary left. I know my doctor was totally surprised because when I had
gone for my last check up for my surgery, and he had given me the
A-Ok that I was fine, and there was no cancer, he told me that he
would see me at my next annual check up.
Kevin Hiroshi Rodrigues Okada, came into this world on Valentine's
Day, Wednesday, February 14, 1990 at 10:56pm at Queen's Medical
Center. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 15 oz., and was 19 and a half inches
long. I had a long, and very difficult pregnancy with him. Being
asthmatic, my asthma would not go away, and I suffered constantly
with not being able to breath, and coughing all thru the day, and
night.
Kevin, you'll always be mommy's little one, although you're almost
as big as I am! LOL!!!!
