First Earth's Educational Programs

First Earth
offers a package of off-site programs incorporating demonstrations, hands-on workshops (smaller groups only), and nature study field trips. These programs are designed for young people to encourage a deeper awareness and understanding of their connection with the natural world.
Educators can customize a curriculum from the primitive skills and nature study lists below, or opt for our basic presentation, a demonstration of all the primitive skills. (Approximately 50 minutes)

Primitive Skills: Wood, bone, and stone tool construction, cordage, basketry and containers, stone age hunting and fishing gear, ancient firemaking methods, hide tanning.

Nature Study: Useful plant and wildflower identification, tracking and trailing, bird identification, nature awareness, overview of local archaeology, basic ecology.

Many of these subjects can be presented either as classroom demonstrations or included in a field trip.

Vocabulary lists, worksheets and references can be provided on request.
