I do storytelling and historical interpretations for children. One of my favorite subjects is apples and of course "Johnny". Your site verified much of what I have already learned and added a bit more to my body of knowledge. Years ago when I was a stude t at Ball State the city of Muncie claimed that there was an orchard that was descended from trees Johnny planted. Has there ever been any documentation of orchards that are still around that have trees descended from some Johnny planted? Are there any nown varities that are from his trees? When I do my "Apple Talk" I try to let folks taste several varities and sometimes I can even get an Antique variety. Johnny's lore is always an important part. Any way, great site lots of info and lots of help. Thank for a job well done.

I'm glad to have found your site. I've been told ever since I was little that I was related to Johnny Appleseed. I've traced my line to John Chapman (1794-1861) and Eunice Boyle (1790-1879). John was supposed to be a cousin of Johnny. But this may tak me forever to work with. Oh well, that's the fun of geneaology isn't it?

Thank you for a great web site. My aunt is related to John Chapman. I would like to post the information that I have which differs from yours. Would invite any comments. Jonathan and Mary (Smith) Chapman The Chapman family moved from Haddam , Connecticut to Tuckahoe or Petersburg, NJ on November 11, 1795. There were nine Chapman children. The oldest, 21 at the time, was John, better known as Johnny Appleseed, probably convinced his father to move to Ohi . On October 23, 1811, all except for two daughters migrated to Marietta or Fearing, Ohio. One daughter, Mary, married Ezekiel Van Gilder, on January 21, 1804, the other married a Bailey. Mary Chapman was born Oct 18, 1782. Ezekiel Van Gilder was born J ly 2, 1780 in Cape May County, NJ. He was a lumberman. In 1814 - 1815 he was a sergeant in Captain George Norton’s Company of Infantry in the Cape May Independent Regiment. He enlisted June 15, 1814 and was discharged February 17, 1815.

Your list of resources are terrific...it showed up as #18 out of over 70 sites on a HotBot search, but no other site had the breadth of references you provided (i'm going to change my rating of you to a 5 and then you'll have two reviews-- i can't believe i was the first to give you a review! When did you complete the site?) THANKS AGAIN and don't forget to have your apple a day, in honor of Johnny....ew

So far I haven't been able to find any information on my great grandfather Robert Sylvester Chapman. The information that I have is that he was born in Ohio. He either married my great grandmother Zoe Bingham in Wyoming or Utah. One of their daughters esmonda B Chapman was born in Wyoming. She was my granmother. Their other daughter was Melvilla Chapman she was born in Utah. One of my aunts told me that there was also a son but that he was adopted after his birth. I have no information about him. Robert Chapman had at least one brother James Chapman that had been in the civil war and after he was a music teacher. Their father was Joseph Chapman. I have no other information but I sure would like to find out what happened to my great grandfather. When my grandmother Des was 17 my great grandmother had remarried to a Mr Wilson. If anyone can help me out. Please write as I will be going off line in a few days. Many Thanks Sandy Brace PO Box 5625 Lacey, WA 98509

It is great to have a place to read about Johnny. I live in Richland County, Ohio and have written a book about the first biographer of Johnny. She was Rosella Rice (1827-1888) who knew him personally. He died when she was 18 years old and was already writing. The book will be sent to a publisher soon and I will let you know how things go. Wish me luck. genealady@aol.com

My husband's grandfather was Aaron Chapman born 1774. We are told he is a cousin of John Chapman but we have not written proof. Do you have John's parents names and their children?

Your site is the most impressive I've seen. You have loads of information. Using Win95 and Netscape 4.5 no problems. My interest is in Mary Kiser and Richard Sloan. I have much digging to do! Our other URL is http://videoranch.net. A real Texas working ra ch, including Family Albums and some history. Come visit!
