Bill's Perspective:

A Look Ahead at 2002
HomeSummerWildernessemail us
As the year 2002 opens for us, I begin my 13th year as Manager of Smoky Mountain Christian Camp.  In some ways it seems like a long time.  In others it has gone by very quickly.
Right now, I am blessed in having my family all here in Coker Creek with me.  Deb and I are at home here.  Billy, Jenni and Jewelia are down the hill in the camp house.  Rachel, Scott and Nathan are working hard on their new house, with Nate eagerly anticipating Kindergarten next year.  Andy is living and working with us after a year in England, doing youth work at Ooltewah.  And Deb's dad and mom have moved in next door, enjoying semi-retirement.  We are all glad to be together for a while.

SOME CHANGES TO CAMP FOR 2002:

* Camp starts a week earlier this year (June 2) as school systems in the area continue to start earlier in August.  The Knoxville schools are basically going to year-round school next year.  Some Blount County schools already have.
*  Camp fees will be
$100.00 for a full week of camp, $125.00 for wilderness camp. We hated to raise fees again, but the budget is tight and expenses keep going up.
*  Jenni has completely taken over secretarial responsibilities.  If you need camp information, retreat information, or have any questions, call her and Billy at 423-261-2197.
*  Our "Free Week of Camp" for our Friends of the Camp supporters now is given to those who support camp with $500.00 or more a year.  Increased fees means we need increased support as well.
*  We'll be having a "Handi-Camp" for handicapped youth and adults in October.
*  We hope to offer "Mini-Camps" during school breaks in the fall, winter and spring.

Thanks to all of you who continue to support the camp.  You can tell by the budget below that we are very dependent on our "FRIENDS OF THE CAMP" In order to meet our needs.  May God continue to bless you, your families, and your churches.

                                  Looking Ahead Again,
                                              Bill
Call From the Wild

Hi Friends
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and is ready for a fresh start in a New Year.  This is a great time to reflect once again on the past year, and set our sights on the year to come.
As I reflet back on the past year, I thank God as I have seen His hand in thw work we have done on the camp.  He provided for a couple of major projects that really needed to be done.  We really needed better water...and now have well water in both the regular camp and wilderness camp.  We also have better bathroom facilities to use when people first come to the camp.  These projects only make the camp a more comfortable place to be.  The real work I have sen God do is in the lives of the kids who come through camp.  He brough kids to camp in record numbers, gave us unbelievable people to help lead our weeks, and convicted the hearts of those who came.  I thank God for all he did.
I now look forward to next year of camp and think of the improvements which need to be made.  The number one priority for me is prayer for God's hand and blessing once again on the difference camp makes to kids.  Other than that, I know tons of things we need to do to improve this place.  The most important of which are the dormitories.  If you've been here you know what I'm talking about.  There are many other things, but, I'm using up too much space.  If we can get tht accomplished, however, along with God's blessing, we will once again have a marvelous year.

                                 Love and Thanks,
                                       Billy
