You'll be dead in the morning the way you walk, Joe Jeffrey was told . It was march 1892. Warn winds had thawed the ice, and snow trails were muddy, but a violent stormhad added to the misery by making the trails to the city impossible, his sister Elisabeth was going to have a baby and needed a doctor, he saddled a horse and using the trees that were so well known to him as guide posts, he worked his way to town. In East Grand Forks he rented a horse and buggy at the livery stable. The doctor was dubious about making the trip, but willing to try. Both couldn't ride in the buggy as they feared the whipple tree would break. Joe walked. The racing snow cut into their faces and piled up on the road. Visibility was zero and Joe had to help the horse break a trail. After many agonizing hours they made it - but she didn't have her baby. The storm let up and the doctor returned home. The following day Jeffrey made the trip again. This time the doctor was needed. The baby was  named Lillian, today know as Mrs Lillian Caldwell of Grand Forks. This baby was born in march 1892, and today she would be 110 years old.
