Background
An LID has been proposed and a bond measure is being scheduled for a November 1999 ballot regarding widening and improving 79th ave.

Initial plans that have been presented to the neighborhood have shown an increase in the width of the street from 20 feet to 40 feet plus 5 1/2 foot side walks on both sides (53 feet total). Strong neighborhood opposition to the plan has been voiced at all meetings for the following reasons.

Costs
Current estimates on the LID costs have ranged from 17,000 - 48,000 per household.

Width
Current proposed width of 40' and knocking down of hills raised concern about speed of traffic through the neighborhood. The plan would also mean removing a lot of large trees.

Property Values
Current LID would demand that homeowners pay for the "improvement". The current street plan had been created to improve traffic flow between Bonita and Durham, not as an improvement to the neighborhood itself. Concern was raised about the "improvement" decreasing property values instead of increasing them, making the assessments impossible to pay.
