Our Fellowship Activities
At Chilhowie United Methodist Church, we believe that
part of our communal life should be spent in fellowship. During 1997, we
have decided to provide numerous opportunities for fellowship for the members
of the church.
To help our church promote a time for fellowship, we carry
on the age old tradition of the church fellowship supper on the second
Wednesday night of each month at 6:30 p.m. The suppers are pot luck, and
the selection is terrific. These suppers are a time for about 40-50 of
us to get together and just have a good time. Everyone is invited to come
and to take part in these meals.
At certain times during the year, the fellowship suppers
have different themes associated with them. In July we have a hot dog and
ice cream supper. The United
Methodist Men usually bring the grills and make the ice cream. At Chilhowie,
the men are good cooks, especially when it comes to desserts. Also, in
August, and sometimes in May, we usually have a picnic in either the town
park, at Hungry Mother State Park, or at Camp Ahistadi.
Another yearly fellowship activity is our Hanging of the
Greens on the First Sunday in Advent
of each year. We gather at the church in mid afternoon and have crafts
for all ages and we also decorate the church for the Advent and Christmas
season.
