Concetta
Vezza
Circa
1929
The
fifth and final branch of Umberto & Anna Vezza is Concetta,
or Connie, our family historian for whom the credit for much of the
information and photos supplied on these pages must be given. As the story goes, the night Connie was
born, August 8, 1915, some members of the Metropolitan Opera chorus were in a bistro across the
back yard from the house. When they were informed a baby was born in the house, they stepped outside and
sang to the family the Verdi aria from La Traviata-"Brindisi" which translated means "A Toast". The music playing on this page is that aria.
If
we are to believe family folk-lore, her brothers claim her to be the toughest
and most resilient in the family. Here is the branch that fought
for, as well as against, her brothers. As stories go she sometimes
had to take on all 4 brothers at the same time and was usually victorious.
Typical of girls of her
generation, she was her mother's little helper. Cleaning house, preparing
meals, serving her brothers breakfast in bed, doing the laundry...come
on, you know the story, it's been repeated in many a households throughout
time.
After
earning her degree from college she taught for several years and later
owned and operated C & C Ravioli in Fort Lee, NJ.
Born, raised, still living in the same house on 6th Street and in her 80's, Connie remains the family pillar of strength, very active in her community
and a leader in her church. Not to be confused with an Olympic champion swimmer,
but a daily swimmer none the less, she truly enjoys her activities.
Her branch has stood the test of time, her leaves have shown no sign of
withering or fading and in fact she continues to amaze all the branches
on the Vezza Family Tree.
