The name Stuebing is anglicized from the German name Stübing. The family originated in Wölpinghausen, Schomberg-Lippe, Hannover, Germany.
Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Stuebing, born 9 Nov. 1823, was the first known Stuebing, of our line, to immigrate to Canada, in August of 1845. Johann settled in Upper Canada making his home in Erbsville, Waterloo Township, Waterloo County, Ontario.
Johann used his second, middle name, Wilhelm, which became William He plied his trade as cooper, barrel maker, and on November 1, 1849 married one Susannah Louisa Allemang.
Susannah was born in Kirberg, Alsace and came to Canada in 1835 via New York City coming with her father and five siblings. The Allemangs settled in Wellesley Township, not far from William Stuebing's home in Erbsville.
Check out this original Poem by my sister, Penny Davis who, along with cousin Hank, have been instrumental in gathering our family skeletons.
