Wanted information:
Name:
1. Jens Christian Nielsen
Born: 29.05.1826 i Rønhede, Vestervig sogn, Denmark
Married: 11.11.1854 in the town of Thisted, Denmark, to Ane Marie Jensdatter, Vust, Vester Han Herred, Denmark.
Jens Christian Nielsen was a smallholder, who moved to the parish of Torsted, Denmark, in 1858 and later to Tingstrup in the parish of Thisted Landsogn, Denmark.
The following information is to be found in the "1900 Census Schedules for Wisconsin", Saxeville, Waushara:
Nelson, Jens C.
Born in May 1825, 75 years of age, immigrated from Denmark in 1879 (means that he had been living in the US for 21 years), lived alone in a rented house, waiting to get his citizenship.
There is a small difference between my sources and the census on his age, but it seems to be the same person, because Jens Christian Nielsen lives in the town of Saxeville, which is not far from Waupaca, where his son, Simon, is living (see below).
I am still interested in additional information on Jens Christian Nielsen - where did he go, when he arrived in the U.S.? What did he do for a living? When and where did he die? Any information on his life in the U.S. is relevant!
Name:
2. Simon Jensen (son of Jens Christian Nielsen)
Born: 15.10.1853 in the village of Vester Thorup, Vester Han Herred, Denmark.
Simon was educated as a coach builder in the town of Thisted. According to the Danish Immigration Archives Simon immigrated to Waupaca, Wisconsin in 1878.
The following information is to be found in the "1900 Census Schedules for Wisconsin", Waupaca City, Waupaca:
Jenson, Simon:
Born in October 1851, housebuilder, 48 years of age, immigrated from Denmark
in 1880 (means that he had been living in the U.S. for 20 years), lived on Granite Street with his wife Stine, Danish too, born in September 1865, 34 years of age, immigrated to the U.S. in 1870 (means that she had been living in the U.S. for 30 years).
Simon and Stine had been married for 18 years. In 1900 they had had 10 children and lost one child. The following children is listed in the 1900-Census:
Jensen, Simon:
Carpenter (employer), 66 years of age, immigrated from Denmark in 1878 (which is correct), naturalized in 1906. Living with his two sons: Arthur Jensen, 20 (in the 1900-Census he was listed as 1 year of age, so here there is another small difference on the information of the two Censuses), farmer,
and Arlow Jensen, 18 years of age, farmer. Simons wife Stine must have passed away in the meantime.
Portrait of Simon Jensen and wife (?)(taken in Waupaca), ca. 1900
Photo of Anna og Verna (?) (taken in Waupaca), ca. 1920
On a visit back home in Denmark Simon brought along these two post cards with motives from Waupaca City:
