I receive several emails a week asking me what the SCA is.
Webster's Dictionary defines anachronism as anything out of its
proper historical time or the representation of this. So, the
XVII Century comes into our time frame. If you are looking for
the perfect way to relax, to unwind, to "live" in an earlier,
slower paced
SCA is international, though it was conceived and "kicked off" at the University of California, Berkeley in 1966. There are approximately 20,000 members. It seems, to me, that everything of interest comes out of UC Berkeley! (Present company excluded).
Many groups meet weekly, so you can always look forward to something interesting in your life. At the meetings, they dance, eat, talk, study, learn and make plans.
The purpose of SCA is to study and to recreate the European Middle Ages, its crafts, sciences, arts, traditions, literature and etc. It concentrates on the Western European High Middle Ages.
The members study dance, cooking, metal work, stained glass, calligraphy, martial arts, literature and costuming! If one is interested in learning of early brewing, he makes his own wines, meads and beers. Those who want to learn about infantry fighting make their armor, weapons and shields. Society For Creative Anachronism is based on an actual feudal society, consisting of kings, queens, princes, princesses, noblemen, barons, knights, and subjects. Oh! What Fun!

Have a great time surfing through their pages, and let me know what you think.
