Sussex County, New Jersey Lookups Offered
I believe the way to keep genealogy a reasonably-priced hobby is for researchers around the world to help each other. I offer free lookups in Sussex County resources and ask only two things:
Please be specific with your request
Please help someone else in return
Old Sussex County Families
by Charles Edgar Stickney based on articles published in the 1930's Wantage Recorder reprint 1988 by Virginia Brown of Genealogical Researchers, Washington, NJ - This includes genealogies of mostly Wantage families but has an every-name index.
Sussex County, New Jersey, Marriages
by Howard E. Case c.1992 Heritage Books, ISBN 1-55613-702-8 - This book covers 1795 (start of civil reg.) through 1878 and is indexed by bride or groom. Please do not ask for something out of that data range.
Minisink Valley Reformed Dutch Church Records, 1716-1830
by The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, c.1992 Heritage Books, ISBN 1-55613-556-4 - The Minisink area includes western Sussex County, NJ; southern Orange County, NY and eastern Pike County, PA. This book is indexed, includes baptisms and marriages (no deaths).
1860 U.S. Census Index CD
for Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, GRS CD#22 by Automated Archives, Inc. - This CD is indexed and will provide the name, town and sheet number. This is NOT the actual census data but will save you hours of micro-reader eyeball roam disease :-) by allowing you to go directly to the correct page number.
New Jersey Herald
the local newspaper for Sussex County available on microfilm in my local library for years 1849 to present. You MUST give me the name and month/year for this lookup. The NJ Herald includes marriage announcements, obituaries, family reunion listings, golden wedding anniversaries, major birthday party celebrations, orphan court postings, some probate listings, etc. There are no birth announcements for the 1800-1920's. Newspaper lookups will be as time permits.
