MONTY

GREYHOUND

Monty was my first Greyhound; at the tender age of three months he arrived from British Columbia. For all you technical pedigree people out there, Monty is what you would call a half and half: 1/4 NGA and 3/4 AKC/CKC. The year was 1979. He was to be a companion for my German Shepherd, Sam. As it turned out, Sam ended up thinking he was a Greyhound. Monty was what I call my test dog for getting into Greyhounds. I learned a great deal; we learned from each other that Greyhounds are indeed different than other dogs.
Monty opened up a whole new world for me. We traveled North America together to Lure Coursing Trials, Dog Shows, Track Racing and Oval Track Racing. He probably would have done well in obedience, but I'm very lazy and obedience really doesn't appeal to me. Monty's personality was terrific, a gentleman of the greyhound world. He ran competatively untill he was injured at nearly eight years old. He passed away at the young age of eleven years, five months in 1990.

I have had a number of greyhounds since Monty. Surprize joined the family three years later ('82),from the sunny climes of California. Mike, Patch and Sudo were Surprizes' ('85) Kids (Pictures of Mikey, Patch, and Sudo ( the Kids), plus Surprize and Hondo Monopoly). Wishes joined our little group in 1993 from England, she raced at Sunderland. Solo('95) is Wishes daughter from Patch.
