JESUS LOVES ME

Jesus loves me! This I know
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to him belong;
They are weak but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus Loves me!

Yes, Jesus Loves me!

Yes, Jesus Loves me!

The Bible tells me so.

Have you ever wondered how this most popular hymn was written?

It is with most hymns a meaningful story.

Two sisters, Anna and Susan Warner, lived near West Point, New York. They taught a
Sunday-school Bible class in their home for West Point cadets. Between them, They wrote
more than seventy books.

In 1860 they collaborated in writing the novel Say and Seal, which became a best-selling
book of that day. In it, Johnny Fax, a young boy, suffered from a lingering disease. Near
the end of the novel, Johnny asked his Sunday-school teacher to hold him and sing to him,
as he often had done.

His teacher, holding the boy, started to make up and sing some simple words, "Jesus loves me,
this I know." The plot of that novel, and this touching scene, gave birth to the now-famous
hymn. The four stanzas appeared in the novel as a song of comfort for the dying boy.

This hymn has been sung by more children than has any other. It is considered to be the
best-known hymn in the world, being translated by missionaries as a means of presenting the
gospel in a clear, simple way. In 1861 William Bradbury composed the tune to which we now
sing these words:

Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! He who died
Heaven's gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.

Jesus loves me! He will stay
Close beside me all the way.
Thou hast bled and died for me;
I will henceforth live for Thee.

Jesus said, "Anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never
enter it"(Luke 18:17).

May we know the deep truth of these simple and beautiful words.

Many of us grew up singing this Children's Hymn. We all have special memories that come to mind when we sing, Jesus Loves Me!

The Bible tell us what Jesus thought and said about children. Mark 10:13-16

One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch them and bless them, but the disciples told them not to bother him. But when Jesus saw what was happening, he was very displeased with his disciples. He said to them, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I assure you, anyone who doesn't have their kind of faith will never get into the Kingdom of God." Then he took the children into his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.

To feel secure, all children need is a loving look and gentle touch from someone who cares. Our children believe us because they trust us.

Jesus said that people should trust in him with this kind of childlike faith. We do not have to understand all the mysteries of the universe; this doesn't mean that we should be childish or immature, but we should trust God with a Child's simplicity and receptivity.

God sends His little angels
In many forms and guises,
They come as lovely miracles
That God alone devises.
Helen Steiner Rice

Psalm 127:3
Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.

Matthew 18:7
Jesus gives a warning, "Beware that you don't despise a single one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels are always in the presence of my Heavenly Father."

For those of us that are grandparents, the Bible says in Proverbs 17:6
Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are the pride of their children.

Parents, may you bring your children up to know the Good Shepherd.
Grandparents, may you enjoy this wonderful blessing and gift God has given you.
