This association is grateful for the significant work done by The International Great Lakes Coalition (IGLC) in the late 1980's and early 90's. In particular local resident, Joe Milauckus helped define the high water issues and educate the riparian population. Joe, Priscilla Meuller and other IGLC volunteers were tireless collaborating with the IJC (International Joint Commission) hydrology experts to define resident shoreline interests. Thank you. The Lake Michigan Shore Association believes that we are now at a critical juncture relative to the political and agency processes that will lead to incremental and substantial regulatory reform. We think the IGLC should listen to our caucus and aggressively work to implement the Regulation Plan 1977-A scope of work as a first step. As of now they have not done so. This Regulation Plan has created a massive water level discrepancy between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes. Lake Michigan/Huron has been radically impacted. Although promised in the early 90,s and budgeted the US Army Corps Of Engineers has not implemented the "scope of work" to reform the regulatory regime. Low Water provides opportunities to lower the temperature on an important qualitative regulatory reform that opens the door to more scientifically responsible management of the Superior headwater. We need the IGLC to address our needs.
