Bryan Woodrove (b. 1298) married Bridgett Elton and thus might be the possible beginings of what we know now to be our long family line. This first page will be a simple and possible straight line down the family. It will be followed by many other pages having the stories of those we have come to know more closely, including those of their wives' families.

At this point we come down to the named spelled as ours, Woodruff.
David Woodruff (b. circa 1536; d. 1572; Buried Undershaft, London, England) married Elizabeth Hill (b. circa 1540; daughter of John Hill). My sister added an interesting note here showing that David was the Sheriff of London in 1554, 21 years after Sir Thomas Kytson/Kittson was Sheriff of London. Sir Thomas was possibly a distant relative of our mother, Rosa Kittson Woodruff, wife of our father, Floyd Woodruff.
Robert Woodruff is the next one shown (b. 1562 London, England) married Donysia Calthorp. The circa date shown of 1637 is not certain if this was a marriage or death date. Robert's brother, Nicholas Woodruff, is listed as "Lord Major" [sic] of London (probably means Lord Mayor.)

Matthew Woodruff I (b. 1612 in England; d. 9/6/1682 in Farmington, Hartford Co., Conn.) married circa 1642 in Farmington Hartford Co., Conn. to Hannah Baldwin (b. 2/28/1623 or '24 in England)

Joseph Woodruff (b. 5/18/1689 in Milford, New Haven Co., Conn.; d. 1/23/1737 or '38 in Farmington, Hartford Co. Conn.) married 10/14/1717 to Esther Brown (daughter of Thomas Brown & Mary Freeman)One of Joseph & Esther's daughters, Sarah, married John Hosford.
Thomas Woodruff (b. 6/6/1725 in Farmington, Hartford Co., Conn.; d. 11/14/1800 in Farmington, Hartford Co., Conn.) married 6/26/1748 in Farmington, Hartford Co., Conn. to Rebecca Loomis (b. 6/4/1726 in East Windsor, Hartford Co., Conn.; daughter of Moses Loomis & Rebecca ?; d. 12/6/1790 in Avon, Hartford Co., Conn.) Rebecca Loomis Woodruff & John Brown, of pre Civil War Harper's Ferry raid fame, were both descendants of Joseph Loomis and Mary White , who were married in Shalford, Essex, England on June 30, 1614. Joseph Loomis died in Windsor, Hartford Co, Conn. on Nov. 25, 1658, age 68, and Mary White Loomis died in Windsor, Conn., on August 23, 1652, one day before her 62nd birthday. Rebecca Loomis Woodruff was their great-great-grand- daughter. John Brown was their great-great-great-great- grandson.
This now brings us to:
David Brown Woodruff (b. 6/4/1765 in Farmington, Hartford Co, Conn) who married on 6/30/1791 at the West Avon, Congregational Church in Farmington, Conn. to Ruth Leete (b. ? in Conn.)
