So after 15 years of not having a car to tinker-with/restore, withdrawl finally reached a breaking point in early 1998. This time I chose an import (and yeah, it cost ten times what that $1,200 Mustang I had in high school did)
05/98: First thing is to get the climate control system working again. Almost everything is vacuum controlled, and the lifespan of the little actuators is about a decade. So I have them all replaced.
08/98: Next, the interior. A large smoker pretty much trashed everything inside. Notice the color difference in the carpet where a trim piece protected it.
08/98: This was in the days before 928 Specialists had their great deal on GAHH carpet sets. Figuring on saving a little money, I ordered several yeards of the original German sliverknit wool and cut out the patterns.
