The Colonel George Mason Chapter, NSDAR, Garland, Texas, was formally organized on April 16, 1955, under the direction of the Texas State Regent, Mrs. Loretta Grim Thomas. Fourteen charter members were appointed by the NSDAR. Among those members were Mrs. Nellen Sellers Arthurs and Mrs. Frances Sellers Odell, direct lineal descendants of Colonel Mason. The Yearbook for 1955-57 listed sixteen members including the Organizing Regent, Mrs. Charles R. McKenney.
Today we have 86 members and are proud of our accomplishments each year. We are visible in the community and in Texas State DAR functions. At our annual February meeting, we honor outstanding students in the area. We meet at the Garland Women's Building once a month September through May at 6:00 p.m.
Our 2003-2005 Chapter Regent is Mrs. Howard H. Goswick (Selma S.).
