Base Kamp
- Shop Online - I've CyberShopped at each of these sites, and have nothing but praises to sing...
REI REI-Outlet ebay (Camping) ebay (Hiking) Campmor - These guys have their act together, right down to customer service/returns. They take "Same day shipping" seriously. B&H Photo - One stop shopping for all your photo needs. Like Campmor, these guys have their act together - Just make sure to order in advance as they strictly adhere to Jewish holidays and can be closed for days when everyone else, including the Mormons, are open.
- Manufacturer Web Sites - I've included only those companies which I've had personal experience and satisfaction with.
- Michigan Retailers that I support - I'm sure there are other good retailers in the area... These are just those that I happen to shop at and be a happy customer of.
Ann Arbor Bivouac - These folks do mail order, as well as walk in, business which, as they have outstanding sales, you may want to take note of. For example, they have "All sleeping bags, 20%-off" sales. This includes Western Mountaineering bags - I'm not talking about old, discountinued, models either. Also, their regular prices on items can be as much as 10% lower than retail at any given time, sale or no sale. Northville REI - Between their great sales and their liberal return policy, I've turned into a "Gear Addict" - I love 'em anyway. "Hey" to Mark, Julie, Erich, and Alexa. Troy REI
- Michigan Retailers that I've had such bad experiences with I'm wasting bandwidth to warn you
Plymouth Venture Outdoors - I guess they liked MyGearShop.Com better than VentureOutdoors.Com. Anyway, it's the same place. Shop at your own risk - I've never bought anything from them personally. I don't like them because every time I've been in the store I've either witnessed someone being hussled into buying super expensive gear they didn't need, nor *initially* want, or the sales folks have ripped into any manufacturers gear that they don't stock. Even within a given brand... they'll rip on a model if they don't stock it. I'd love to see Wayne Gregory pay them a visit, only to be informed that the "Reality sucks" but the Forester is OK. I guess what's important is who's making the money... things like function and fit just don't matter.
