"A Closer Walk With Thee", playing in the background, was chosen for the miracle of

"Forever holding your heart outside your body when you become a parent"!

This Page is dedicated to Grandmothers and Grandchildren

and the joys that come from the loving bond created

through this special relationship!

Meet NICOLE YURI, (the dolly on the left) and STEPHANIE SAKURO (on the right) who are the daughter's of my son Randy and his much loved wife, Josephine. They are a unique mixture of Japanese and Polish! Nikki was born November 13, 1998, and the proud grandma attended her entrance into the world. Mom was a champion, giving birth naturally. "Some feat", when you see she is just the size of a button, very tiny! Nikki, as she is called, is strictly her father's girl. Stephanie entered the world on March 22, 2000, just one day short of her dads birthday, at 8#'s 4ozs., a huge baby for tiny Jo! Gram couldn't attend because she had to babysit Nikki. But...I ran to the hospital when she was just 2 hours old and "bonded" as soon as possible. A Mom is so proud to see her son melt when he cuddles his child and realizes the importance of parenting. I, being partial, think all my babies are the cutest, sweetest and smartest ever. The quilt Nikki is on was made for her by me and Stephanie also has one..

These 2 happy children are Cody and Ashley. They live in Texas, but love to visit Gram & Grampa in Wisconsin. One of the favorite past-times is to "cruise" around the 3 acres on the garden tractor. Cody is 7 and was born in Germany while his parents lived there for 3 years. Lucky me! I went to visit him when he was just three months old, making it a dreamed of vacation also. Ashley is 14 and is the most beautiful "golden red head". She was the second grandbaby I was fortunate enough to attend the birth of. We are extremely lucky and get to see them often, considering the distance. They come yearly at Christmas and I spent Spring Break with them in Florida this past winter, taking strolls on the beach and enjoyed showing them new and wondrous sights.

The saying at the left is one of My Favorites!

I find being a grandparent is much easier than being a parent. A grandma is supposed to give sweets and cookies and gifts and love and always have a hug and receive wet kisses and laugh at chocolate all over the face. Being a parent is having rules and wiping faces and doing laundry and cooking meals and taking kids to the doctor and dentist and walking the floor with a sick child. "WHEW"! I am glad those years are over and I can have grandbabies over to spend the night, love them to death, spoil them, then send them home. Funny how I see my adult children doing as I did, even though they complained about soooo much when they were children themselves. Now I look at them and I see me and watch their children complain about the things they once did! Isn't it strange how life comes full-circle.

Bill Cosby once called it the "MOTHERS CURSE,"

"One day you will have children just like you are!"

Meet Melissa Ann who is our very own New Year's Baby, born January 1, 1991 in Aberdeen, Maryland.

She is a real grandma's girl, needing often and frequent doses of sleepovers and phone calls. She affectionately calls me "gramzo". She now lives nearby and loves to help me in my garden. Pulling weeds is a favorite thing to do and when she was just a wee tyke, we would take walks and she stopped every few feet to snatch weeds anywhere they were sprouting. As you can guess, with lots of weeds, walks were never very far or very fast! Melissa may one day become an actress because she is very good at pretending and loves the spotlight. She knew most of the dialog and all the words to the songs of the Disney movies when she was just 3 years old. When she wants something, she will tell me she should be able to have it because it is in the "Grandma Contract"! But, she makes the rules to fit the current circumstances.

What can you say about your first grandbaby?

Christina Lee, now 17 years old and on the road to being an adult herself, was the first time I began to realize how wonderful the world of Grandparenting could be. Her father was in the Army and her Mom, Anita, was living at home when she was born. I was the first person to hold her tiny hand and tears filled my eyes, knowing something special had just happened. With her began the learning process of what a Grandma is. I was forever mailing packages to Germany where they were stationed. Even today, some of the dresses I lovingly made for her are being worn by her sister Melissa, after passing to Ashley. It was difficult to not see her but twice a year on leave. Eventually they returned to the States, but the Army does not "put them in your neighborhood". For the past several years, she has been in Wisconsin and watching her become a young woman is a joy. I must admit, you sure see your mortality as you watch them grow and know how quickly the years are passing!
