Toaster Pastry Taste Test
The best-tasting toaster pastry: Kellogg's Pop Tarts
Methodology:
Most brands have strawberry flavor available, so we chose frosted strawberry for our test. The test was done twice- we tested it at home (Courtney, Harry, Teresa) then I tested it at the office with Val, Michelle, Bobbi, and Julie. Each respondent received 1/4 of a toaster pasty of each of the three brands. The three brands were Kellogg's Pop Tarts, Post Toastettes, and Cub (store brand.) The toaster pastries were heated equally:
#1 | #2 | #3 | |
Courtney | Pop Tarts | Cub | Toastettes |
Harry | Pop Tarts | Toastettes | Cub |
Teresa | Pop Tarts | Cub | Toastettes |
Michelle | Toastettes | Cub | Pop Tarts |
Bobbi | Pop Tarts | Toastettes | Cub |
Julie | Pop Tarts | Cub (tie) | Toastettes (tie) |
Val | Pop Tarts | Toastettes | Cub |
There was an unusual amount of consistency in the top choice. Michelle was the lone dissenter, rating Pop Tarts last of the three. She thought that the filling for Pop Tarts tasted artificial, and that the crust was better for Toastettes. I thought the frosting was much better for Pop Tarts than for the other. Cub brand was not bad, but as we ate the rest of the package, we found a hair inside one of the Cub brand toaster pastries. They cheerfully refunded our money for the package when we returned it to the store.
