The Persian and its Sexual Behavior

Both the male and female reach sexual maturity in about eight to ten months unlike their relative the Himalayan, the male can wait up 18 months. Females tend to mature before males. If your cat comes in heat before 10 months old it is not recommened to breed her, she is not totally mature her self and she may not fully develop.

A Cat In Heat

A female comes into heat twice a year for three to six days, generally in February and in June. If you do not mate your cat she can stay in heat for for ten days and sometimes for as long as three weeks. The female only can become pregnant while in estrus(the period of sexual excitement in a female). The best time is the third day of estrus. If you are not going to bred your female persian I will give you a reason why you should spay it. A persian in heat is vocal, spraying of urine and restless. Sexually frustrated of its sexual need. It will carry on untill bred up to three weeks all night and day long. The queen (the female in heat) also shows sign of affection rubbing against people she knows, rolling over and over on the floor with aparent pleasure. When touched she may crouch, treading hind legs. And increased urination.

The Male

The male is all ways ready to mate if it is healthy and is not fussy about what breed he gets to mate with. A tom cat will will spray urine while shaking his tail. He will become vocal, he will lick his penis and pace back and worth restlessly for his mate. If you don't neuter your male you will have to life with the smell and the behavior that comes with him wanting to breed.

Mating

The courtship may take up to several hours or just a few brushing passes. For the copulation to take place, the female has to be immobilized so the male can get to her. He will grab her by the scruff neck and mount her. After the mating act is over, the female often crys and trys to slap the tom cat to end the mating. The tom then will wait to get another chance. It has been said that the virgin queen will give the tom a rough time. So a virgin tom should mate with a queen who has already matted.
